The Brits definitely do a better job, although even they have joined the trend.

Canelo publishes some really good authors, but they don't do hardcovers at all.

I'll generally try to buy the UK first edition of a book over the US edition if I can.

Main publishing houses are for sure trending downwards in hardbacks and LEs. Though I think we are seeing an upswing in customer edition outfits. Basically boutique shops that will create limited edition prints for people like us. Lots out of the UK. The Broken Binding is a popular one. I know, I've been on the waitlist for like 8 months now to join their subscription service…

I just built a library as well. I feel like this is every woman's dream. Ours didn't need it, but she talked about a ladder a lot.

Maybe these wives remember seeing the library that Beast had in his castle (animated Beauty and tge Beast movie)?
