The 2 most overrated bands of all time are Sublime (simple reggae beats + below average rock != amazing) and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Yeah, their transition to slower ballads sucked. Their early true rock stuff was gold though. Ann Wilson may be greatest female rock voice of all time.BassCowboy33 said:double aught said:If you don't like U2, that's fine. Not trying to say anyone's wrong. But part of their appeal is that they've been able to reinvent their sound at least twice with great success. That is exceedingly rare in pop music. I think Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, and All That You Can't Leave Behind are all great rock albums. All three are critically acclaimed, and all three have different sounds. Who else has accomplished that? Not many. Some Junkie Cosmonaut said:BassCowboy33 said:
I've never understood U2. When I was coming up in the 90s, they were the biggest band in the world, but their music never made sense to me. Whereas Jazz, Sinatra, Elvis, The Beatles, Nirvana, and Metallica all make sense in their time and era, I never got the U2 thing.
Their newer stuff is absolutely atrocious. Like, late-stage Incubus bad.
Same. I know we're in the minority but I never got the appeal. Even as a really young kid who liked pretty much everything my older sibling played through the walls, I always thought U2 sucked a fat one. It's like rock made specifically for elevators or the lobby of a dentist's office.
Heart is the only other that jumps to mind who had numerous hits with wildly different sounds in different eras.
I get that they were huge and super popular and talented. I just didn't get the music. To me, it was very boring music, and I listen to jazz.

I went through a Red Hot Chili Peppers "overrated" phase, but I'm come back to them big time. My kids like them too, and get a kick out of their name because we have dogs named Chile and Pepper. The call the band the Red Hot Dog Dogs.
