THE TPE Oscars based on movies I saw in 2023.

Best Picture: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Best Actor: Ryan Gosling, solely for giving me this gif.



Best Actress: Margot Robbie, for giving me the opportunity to stare at Margot Robbie for 2 hours because my wife and kids wanted to watch the Barbie movie.

Best Supporting Actor: Tanooki Mario - my go-to character on Mario Kart 8 saved the day in the movie.

Best Supporting Actress: Spider-Gwen: Best female in a Spider-Man movie ever.

Worst Supporting Actress: Whoever played Antman's daughter in Antman 3. I thought she was Miley Cyrus until the credits rolled.

Best Cameo: Nathan Fillion finally getting to show his face in GOTG 3.

Best movie to fall asleep during: Elemental, I made it maybe 12 minutes in.

Best song: Dance the Night Away from Barbie. Hot take - Dua Lipa is as hot Margot Robbie in this video.

Looking forward to the show. I hope that we get at least one surprise in a big category, but that seems unlikely. I'd love to see Past Lives win Best Screenplay.

Saw 2 of the best picture nominees, which is pretty good for me these days.

Past Lives and Anatomy of a fall, acting and storyline were good in both but the pace was too slow in both. Could have seen KOTFM for free but didn't want to drive 40 minutes.

Best movie this year was Spiderverse.

Oscars were huge when I was growing up and I looked forward to them, these days I'll just check the internet to see who won.

I'll watch some highlights later in the week if there are any. I doubt Kimmel gets slapped like Rock did. I also doubt he gives a monologue as good as Gervais the last time he hosted The Golden Globes.

Trying to do a purge on some stuff at the house and work in some guitar practice so I can someday feel comfortable enough to play in front of more than our pets.

This is my place marker on the thread to remind me to check back and see if y'all had any "oh wow!" moments but I can't spend three hours watching a bunch of people that live in a bubble disconnected from reality pat themselves on the back.

As for the show itself, I can't wait to finally see Nolan and Downey Jr get their due, watch Gosling perform, see who wins the closely contested screenplay categories, bask in an incredibly-well-edited montage or two, hear all the fun/crazy/heartwarming speeches, and just soak up the whole thing in general. Not to mention, the Best Actress race is a nail-biter as well. It's just an all around great night of celebrating movies that I look forward to every year, one that always fuels and inspires.

Who you got? I was all in on Gladstone early on, then flipped to Emma Stone, then flipped back once Gladstone won the SAG.

**I am 100% fine if Cillian Murphy wins actor instead. I think thats a tossup and could go either way but I think voters may go for the long overdue Giamatti the way Hollywood sometimes rewards careers as much as that one role.

How do yall think the movies will be remembered/watched in the years to come? I think The Holdovers will be in the holiday rotation for a lot of people. I could see Past Lives becoming a cult classic. I can see Oppenheimer settling into the TNT Saturday afternoon/Sunday night rotation. I think Barbie will be pretty popular and watched for years to come.

I think Murphy has an equal claim to that kind of narrative, being a perennial "character actor" who finally got to shine in a lead role for the first time in a big Hollywood production. (28 Days Later notwithstanding)

Beyond Utopia should be up for documentary. Real life adventures of a family escaping North Korea. Just amazing footage and storytelling. Unfortunately, it did not get nominated.

I have Oppenheimer winning best picture, along with Murphy for actor and Randolph for supporting actress and Gladstone for lead actress and Downey for supporting actor

Makes me feel slightly better about TMNT getting shafted that Spiderverse didn't win it. That movie is so overrated imo.
