Getting this started
I made it into the second episode last night. It's a tough watch so far. Never read any of the books so I have no point of reference for what this is supposed to be so I'm judging only the show. I'm struggling to find any redeeming qualities at the moment. It's pretty boring and the acting is bad IMO. I might wait to hear from people who watch the whole thing to figure out if it's worth going any further.C@LAg said:

The trilogy of books as a whole are fantastic. The first book is pretty weird, so i get that you guys don't care for it so far. I haven't started the show yet, but I'll be trying soon.
This is good to know. I heard such great things about the books, but I was not impressed with the first book at all. I thought the story was an interesting concept, but I found the writing itself (prose, pacing, character development, etc.) to be very meh. I chalked it up partly to the translation from Chinese to English, but it did not leave me wanting to read the next book. Maybe I'll go ahead and give the second book a shot.schmendeler said:

DB Weiss and Benioff. No thanks.

First book is very "Chinese" i think. All the cultural references are Chinese vs western so they don't do much for us. The second book is where I thought it really got good. Hopefully you'll agree if you give it a go.

Hadn't even heard of that fourth book. It was worth reading?
