[Starting a thread about wokeness in entertainment is too general for this board and belongs in F16 if you want to discuss it. Comments on the wokeness of a specific movie or show can be relevant on this board if it's part of movie or show thread critique. There's a fine line between critiquing and derailing, and we'll call a tight strike zone -- Staff]

[Separate but related note: any posters attempting to bully others on what they can or can't comment on with regards to a movie or show critique are out of line and will be banned. If you believe someone's post doesn't comply with TexAgs posting policies, flag it and we'll look at it. If discussing how Hollywood is injecting woke into entertainment thus degrading the product, F13 claims conspiracy theory nonsense thus thread deletion.

If F13 hand waves the woke discussion and saying it's not as bad or just turn it off if you dont like it, the thread derails thus thread deletion.

All threads in every board on this website have discussions meander and flow and spread out the conversations into smaller sub conversations. This is a good thing. This is stimulating the continued overall discussion.

Except on this board. For some reason there is no room for growth of conversation on this board, just muted moderation that is confusing since there is no explanations (completely unlike almost every other board on this website)…

This. "Woke" is different for every person which is why conversations about it will always blow up unless you are with people exactly like yourself. Hardcore conservatives see just about everything as woke. Normal conservatives see things as wok that moderate conservatives don't, and they see things that moderates don't, and they see things as woke that lefties don't.

It's chasing your tail, and this thread will get nuked just like the last one did.

Serious attempt to answer: Woke is an ideology where people have an incessant and overwhelming desire to champion victims.

Sounds great, until you realize who the victims and oppressors are in their minds.

For instance, the woke champion Palestinians, despite the fact Palestinians overwhelmingly support and voted in Hamas as their governmental leaders(a blood thirsty terrorist org), because they see them as victims of oppressive Israel.

Even though Israel is completely surrounded by countries and people that want them wiped from the earth…

Don't pay much attention to Hollywood, agendas, etc. Not really on my radar. What I do find funny is everyone on Madison Avenue trying to outprogressive each other with the people in their ads.

Liberals started using is to mean something like "enlightened" or "hip to the current liberal causes/dogma"....but they went so far with the wackiness, it is now kind of a catch-all negative phrase used to describe stuff that is ridiculously progressive. Thinking not hiring whites is a noble industry or corporate objective is "woke". A TV show writing into the script that a boy's cancer was caused by racism is "woke". Thinking men can get pregnant/chestfeed etc. or that male sports competitors should compete with, and shower and change with females is "woke". The most recent democrat SCOTUS appointee not being able to define what a woman is (bc she's not a biologist) is "woke". Praising a career felon who once robbed a pregnant woman at gunpoint, poisoned his own community, and swallowed enough fentanyl to kill a small village is "woke". "Queers for Palestine"...where gays and trans ppl are marching and blocking streets on behalf of a group that would treat them unimaginably bad, is "woke". We could go on for pages....

Not really...it's much narrower than you think. Pretty much used only to describe ridiculously progressive ideals and behavior. If someone cuts me off and gives me the finger, I do not like that at all, but that doesn't make them or the situation "woke". Throwing a fit when a book like "Gender Queer", which depicts cartoon images of preteen and teen males sucking eachother's D's, is removed from elementary and middle school libraries is "woke". This upset many liberals I know, who I don't even consider to be super progressive really. They cried about "book bans" and made comparisons to Hitler...because literal gay cartoon porn books were pulled from some schools.

Totally diresgarding the fact that people would have had just as big of a problem with that stuff if it showed a girl going down on a boy, or vice versa.

People who blindly follow the progressive narratives and marching orders like good little foot soldiers are "woke".

It's not though. Those views are espoused by about 2% of people on the right and about 90% of people on the left.
The point of the video is that "normal" democrats are now so whacked out that they've come full circle to actually agreeing with and promoting fringe policies that are hideously racist and discriminatory. That is the modern day left.

Luckily they make up a pretty damn small extreme minority of the general population. The point of the video is to show how the modern progressive left has gone so far left that their ideas (which are pretty damn mainstream and embraced by most of their politicians) are entering into klansman-ideology territory. "Blacks too incompetent and poor to get ID's...."we need segregated graduation ceremonies/spaces on campuses" etc etc.
