In my formative era, there were exactly 3 movies that taught me what moviemaking was: Jurassic Park, Twister, and Apollo 13.

Could not tell you the number of times I watched these.

Jurassic Park has been *******ized for decades.

But I just saw a sneak of "From the Earth to the Moon". And it was godawful (yes, it's Apollo 11, not 13, but still)

Next they're coming after Twister?

It was one thing when they were *******izing the 70s/80s. But it's way too early to be assaulting the mid 90s kids.

From the Earth to the Moon was Project Mercury through Apollo. And it was great (and was also released more than a quarter century ago...how did you just see a sneak?)

Also, the twister movie has been out for weeks now, right?

That came out right after Apollo 13. Are you referring to something else?

If you were a kid of the 90s, then surely you remember the 60s/70s nostalgia of that decade. Adams Family, Brady Bunch, Beverly Hillbillies, etc. 80s nostalgia is coming to an end and we're now getting the 90s. You say it's too early, but it's really not. You're just getting old and don't want to accept that your childhood has now become the current nostalgia era.

Sometimes when I was sick I would go stay at one of my sets of grandparents during the day. Fondly remember being introduced to the classics of tv: Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, Mr Edd Addams Family, Andy Griffith, 60s Batman. Some of the other popular shows didn't resonate at all, like the Munsters, My 3 Sons, and others.

To some extent, even completely scripted and fabricated entertainment do make lasting impressions on children.

I guess the moral of the story here is to pay close attention to what your children are consuming. There is a not so subtle line marking the shift from family value driven sitcoms or surreal elements in everyday life to Marxist-driven social themes of change, diversity, race and sex.

It's pretty horrific how much social and consumerism garbage is pushed on kids today.

Let me see if I understand your use of the term "*******ized". In your view, none of these movies should ever have had a sequel produced? It's not like Jurassic Park made $2 at the box office; it was the biggest box office hit in 1993 by far, so of course it was going to get a sequel. In fact, author Michael Crichton wrote the sequel first in novel form, then Spielberg ignored the book and made his own sequel.

I don't know where Twister ranked in terms of 1996 box office numbers, but over the years it has been a favorite of many to watch. I was meh on that movie when I saw it, and I'm meh on the sequel. This sequel falls more in line with the likes of Blade Runner 2049 or Top Gun Maverick, made more than 20 years after the originals. These are certainly tapping in to a nostalgia factor. Both Blade Runner 2049 and Top Gun Maverick were excellent movies, as it turned out, so Twisters might see a similar quality.

From the Earth to the Moon was an HBO miniseries produced by Tom Hanks that came out in 1998, I believe. It was fantastic. I believe the movie you're referring to is Fly Me To the Moon. But you do realize that a movie such as that is based on real life? It's not ripping off Apollo 13 or reflecting negatively on your childhood in any way; it's simply looking at another aspect of the space program and NASA.

Lol, so this thread started out as a nonsensical rant about sequals/remakes to movies that the OP liked when they came out, then shifted into nostalgia for classic sitcoms from the fifties, sixties, and seventies which was then used as a general warning about Marxism infiltrating our children's viewing habits.

I feel like this whole just needs to be melded into the official thread derailment thread.

They're not assaulting, they're pandering. Gen X is now in boomer territory and your dollars are sought in advertising and nostalgia flicks.

You should have heard the outrage from Pixies fans when Phoebe Bridgers did a cover of Gigantic for one of the iPhones. That was ours, not some sort of crass yada, yada. It was worse for those Surfa Rosa era fans because their cultural touchstone wasn't previously mass marketed like say Twister and Jurassic Park.
