by far the scariest part of the movie the Shining

one of the least attractive women i've seen in a movie.

As a kid, her Faerie Tale Theatre show freaked me out much more than The Shining ever did as an adult. Jeff Goldblum as the big bad wolf was horrifying.

Amazing actress and under appreciated. In my opinion, one of the greatest performances in a horror film with the Shining. Was always hoping she would make a comeback. She was something else

Wow.

About a week ago I saw an on-line article title about how she checked out of Hollywood and that she'd be making a return.

I need to find/read that article

Absolutely terrible portrayal of King's Wendy Torrance.

But that was on Kubrick.

Is/Was Shelly Duvall not a big enough name to be just listed as 'Actress', instead of listing her director and her character names? I know she wasn't super active lately, but I thought her name could stand alone.

Her portrayal of the character was pretty good. She didn't look like Wendy from the novel but was otherwise strong. It's Jack Torrance whose character was mangled from the book to the film.

The Shining was a great King adaptation. Jack was great in it, but she was still really good and did exactly what Kubrick wanted for the role. As far as her being ugly, she was interesting looking enough to be a model and marry one of the coolest dudes of the 70s.

King's Wendy Torrance was a beautiful, strong, resilient, resourceful woman.

Kubrick's Wendy Torrance was an annoying, unsure, whiney, broken woman.

She spent a solid 10 minutes of the film running around screaming and flailing her arms about and another 10 minutes ripping cigs.

DeMornay actually played the character far better in the made-for-TV adaptation, unfortunately the rest of the film/casting was low budget.

It's not Duvall's fault, and Kubrick still made a masterpiece horror film. But it lost much of it's soul. You were really rooting for the Torrances in the novel. In the film, they were just dysfunctional and off-putting from jump street.

Great film, terrible adaptation.

Be sure to read this article from a few years back. It's listed as a related video in the original link but easy to miss. I remember reading it when it first came out. It's really well done.

Was she the most accurate comic character to real life casting ever?

That was a good article. It was honest about her mental health struggles, but didn't exploit or demean her.

They nailed the cast at least. Williams was solid for Popeye.
