94

Legendary comedian, and star of two hit shows.

Bob Newhart Dead: Stand-Up Comic, Sitcom Legend Was 94 (hollywoodreporter.com)

and for a little Houston trivia. His live album that was #1 on the charts for 14 weeks in 1960 ("The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart), was recorded live at the Tidelands Club (University @ Main Street).

crazy that he had a #1 album before he was born.

I image he just woke up in Heaven, turned to his wife next to him and said, "Honey, I just had the strangest dream..."

Love that Newhart won a Grammy in 1961 for ALBUM OF THE YEAR. Not comedy album, like he beat Sinatra and Nat King Cole. Legend

...and then the wife turned out to be Don Rickles instead of Suzanne Pleshette.

He was one of my favorites, I hate to hear this. Such a legend and had the perfect dry deadpan humor. His sitcoms, Elf, the Librarian movies, etc.

RIP The greatest of all time -- no profanity or obscenity -- just pure genius and perfect timing. No one could match the subtle eye expressions that made it so difficult for his fellow cast members to keep from breaking character with laughter.

Quintessential show business nice guy. I grew up listening to my dad's old Bob Newhart comedy albums. He could make you laugh with such an understated delivery of his jokes, his bit on Europeans discovering tobacco from the Indians was hilarious. Was a big fan of his tv show back in the 80s too.

I started reading The Talisman to my kid today, chapter 1 starts out very bleak. Oddly enough main character and mom were watching Bob Newhart on tv, it added to the imagery.

He blurred the line between reality and his character. Very hard to do, and he did it effectively.

I remember watching the Newhart show with my dad growing up.

An absolute legend.

His episode of "Conan O'Brien needs a friend" has a joke delivery at the end that sends Conan and crew into absolute hysterics. They were all unable to recover. Such a talent.
