Tom Selleck has been the star of Blue Bloods since 2010.

I love his Jesse Stone movies!
I never watched Blue Bloods, but I have always liked the Jesse Stone movies. Probably in part because the character reminded me a bit of Magnum PI.

That being said, neither had the prominence that Selleck enjoyed during the 80s with Magnum.

I've read scuttlebutt of another Jesse Stone movie now that Blue Bloods is over. Not sure where they would go with that given Selleck's age, but I'll watch it. He pretty much carried the final few movies in order to get them made. They got good ratings, but CBS didn't care as the audience skewed old.

This thread had me look up his IMDB. The one show with 44 episodes and then 3 or 4 TV shows a year where he does max two episodes. Mostly shows I had never heard of.

His biggest thing recently was a movie in 2017 that looks like it cost $1MM to make and 100% took place in a living room. I had actually seen it kinda by accident and didn't realize it was him in it.

It is interesting that just about everyone here was on a well liked show and then just disappeared.

Speaking of Phoebe Cates, I just watched the new Beverly Hills Cop movie last weekend.

First time I've seen Judge Reinhold since the last Beverly Hills Cop movie almost 30 years ago(?) and first my first thought upon seeing him is, "Man, Phoebe Cates was hot."

I wonder how many times he screwed up that swimming pool scene so they could do another take?

Its definitely a downside of tv acting. If you are lucky enough to be part of a long running big hit, people are also less likely to want to see you, or believe you, in another role.
For some reason we dont do the same thing to people that were in a movie (maybe if it was a trilogy we might?)

It's just a raw hours thing I think. Even if you have a smash hit movie and some sequels, that's 6 hours of movie of you in that role. Versus two seasons of a TV show and you've got 10-40 hours of you in the role.

Josh Radnor (Ted Mosby) from How I Met Your Mother?

Feel like I haven't seen much of anyone from that show lately besides Robin in the marvel stuff.

They all made too much money, and didn't care to be in the grind again.

TV is hard.

Some people try to keep doing that.

Or some people say "I want to direct or something, I just don't want to be in that grind anymore, and I don't have to be, after all the money I made."

Three Men and a Baby and the sequel movie were pretty successful.

Neil Patrick Harris was in 8-Bit and Jason Segel just did an Apple TV show with Harrison Ford that was pretty well received (haven't seen it myself). Other than that, that is really all I can think of.

Segel also stars in one of the most successful (and one of my favorite) comedies of the last 20 years, "forgetting Sarah Marshall"

I enjoyed The Pretender back when it was on. I thought Michael T. Wise would get big parts in the future.

That movie was made while How I Met Your Mother was still airing though.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall is one of my favorite movies as well.

And a great example of why this thread exists.

How I Met Your Mother S9 was a DISASTER. And it was in large part bc Jason Segel said "I want out of this grind, but you can get me for this many days. I'd rather direct." And NPH and Allyson Hannigan were like "yep, I'm tired but I'll also give you a limited number of days."

Fast forward now- some folks want to be behind the camera. Some folks say "8 episodes every 2 years sounds great."
