So I had just gotten done watching a newest weekly review from my favorite YouTube movie critic, The Nostalgia Critic...where he reviewed one of the Movie "movies"....Disaster Movie.

And while I had never seen that one (or a majority of any of these) it got me to thinking of just how many of these were actually made...and holy crap I had no idea the list was this long! And I'm still thinking I may have missed one or two but regardless here they are in release year order:

Scary Movie 2000
Scary Movie 2 2001
Not Another Teen Movie 2001
Scary Movie 3 2003
Date Movie 2006
Scary Movie 4 2006
Epic Movie 2007
Disaster Movie 2008
Superhero Movie 2008
Extreme Movie 2008 (yes this is one of them had to watch the terrible trailer to confirm it)
Meet the Spartans 2008
Vampires Suck 2010
Scary Movie 5 2013
Not Another Church Movie 2024 (ok I don't think this technically related to the rest of the crap on this list but the trailer was so terrible had to include it)

Why 2008???? Why????? It wasn't enough that the aggies had to go 4-8 under the first year of Mike Sherman after firing no-stach Fran that you had to make 4 OF THESE THINGS IN ONE YEAR!!!! W! T! F!

All I can think is that these things must've been VERY cheap to make because how else would they have pumped out 4 of these in a single year. Has anyone actually seen all of these?

I was a freshman in highschool when the first Scary Movie came out so needless to say I was probably the #1 target demographic for this and for a short while it worked...I saw the first Scary Movie from renting it....saw Not Another Teen Movie in theaters and Scary Movie 3 as well.

But after that saw this crap for what it was and never gave it another penny. Who the hell was funding all this???? Was this some massive money laundering scheme like Food Fight has been rumored to have been???

Hollywood has some serious explaining to do.......

Edit: Yup....forgot at least one that I just added to the list: Vampires Suck

Apparently the writers of all this actually made 3 more but I don't think these actually got theatrical releases so fortunately it seems it was 2013 that started to kill these things off....the 3 movies were:

The Starving Games 2013
Best Night Ever 2013
Superfast! 2015

Of course from looking all this up came across that there appears to be a Scary Movie 6 coming out in 2025....

Maybe it was because I liked Varsity Blues so much.....

Think my favorite movie that parodies a genre is still Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood. I remember that movie being hilarious.

As far as the rest, nobody knows how do to satire anymore without just resorting to insult humor.

One of the hardest laughs I ever had in a theater was a quick scene in Date Movie where Allyson Hannigan hops on a motorcycle, and temporarily turns into a huge muscular black dude and pops a wheelie.

My buddy and I almost died laughing.

The Scary Movie franchise made $900M off costs of $175M.

Not Another Teen Movie made $65M off cost of $15M.

Of course they were going to keep going there.

Date Movie, which was the final straw for me did $80M off of $20M.

That one still goes down as the 2nd worst movie I've seen in a theatre.

Parodies have been around for a long time. There are some good ones. The modern era is just hanging on the coattails of a better era.

Spaceballs
Blazing Saddles
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Airplane!
Etc.

I'd be willing to bet a lot of people hated these movies too.

Some of these are considered classic or near-classics of the spoof-comedy/parody genre.

Not Another Teen Movie is the best of the bunch and launched Chris Evans' career (and, to a lesser extent, a hysterical Eric Christian Olsen). I still quote that movie from time to time.

Scary Movie 1 & 3 are also fantastic.

Some of these movies are terrible but have a moment or two of genius. Movie 43 was awful, but Terence Howard's Glory Road spoof is one of the best moments of comedy I've ever seen and encapsulates what every person who watched Glory Road thought at some point.

Meet the Spartans was also terrible, but the fat guy with the painted abs made me laugh out loud multiple times.

"All I said was: "I'm pretending to whisper a big secret in your ear so that Jake here thinks I'm telling you a secret, which will cause him to break into a hysterical confession where he actually reveals a big secret. Thus confirming everything I just whispered in your ear."

Chalk up another believer in "Not Another Teen Movie". It's top to bottom incredible, nevermind that it landed immediately when the teensploit genre was popular but had become exhausting. And it has 20+ years of the genre to spoof on, so it can do more than just make stupid self-referential gags.

And there's...
- "Lay your heads on my shoulder"
- The football announcer "Wham, bam! What the F**** just happened?" and "Damn, those b***hes REPRESENT!" during the cheerleading standoff.
- "I can't believe nobody's ever taken a dump on your chest before!"
- "shhh... I know, 'it's wack'."
- The overcussing, overspitting football coach
- Jaime Presley being ridiculous.

"See the ball…and throw yourself."

"I have no pigment…"
"Any girl with a guitar is hot."
"…I need sunscreeeen."
"Granted, she's a hippie albino."

"It's funny isn't it? You would never suspect everyone at this school is a professional dancer."

"Just give us the gun, Janie!"
