Buddy told us Darth Vader was Luke's father on the way to the movies.

We still slug him in the arm every time we see him. Basterd.

Lonesome Dove. I was watching the 4th episode of the series at a friend's house in college. Girl walks in and says "Is this the one where Gus dies?"

I go "Gus dies?????"

I still give her grief about that 25 years later.

I still remember someone posted "Dumbledore dies" on the General board back in the day. I had read the books but there were several upset people that day.

I knew a guy who thought it was funny to drive by book stores on the release night and yell, "Snape kills Dumbledore!!!" At the kids waiting in line. Total ass move. Ruined it for a lot of kids.

Went to my son's first grade class Christmas party the day after Force Awakens came out. We had tickets to go later that day, but one kid saw it the night before. I asked him what he thought. He responds, "It was sad when Han Solo died...". His dad yelled, "We talked about this! Don't spoil it for people.". Kid was like, "Oh, is that what you meant?"

I wasn't too upset, because I figured it was going to happen... Also, the kid was like 5.

It's not a movie, but the 1980 Olympic hockey game against the USSR. Maybe the dumbest spoiler ever in the history of spoilers. I lived in Milwaukee at the time, the game was played at 5 Eastern, shown on tape delay at 7 central. No internet so no one knew the result. In between the first and second periods, the local sports guy did a promo for the 10p news and his intro was "More on the amazing hockey upset at 10!".
My mom, who was born in Canada and hated Russian hockey more than anyone in the US can understand starting screaming. 10 year old me tried to calm her down and leave some suspense by saying that it could have been a tie (those could happen in the medal round then, it was round robin) but I think we both knew a tie wasn't getting that giddiness.
So yeah, maybe the greatest sports moment in US history got wrecked by an imbecile.

I don't know how you top Vader, honestly.

This is not entertainment-related, but probably the worst spoiler in our lives was finding out the gender of one of our kids. We've done a reveal cake for all our kids. For one of them, we went to the OB after the ultrasound, and he came in to tell us some really bad news about the results. Trying to prepare us for what was in front of us, he said (paraphrasing) "Realistically, I think you need to be prepared for "her" not to make it past childbirth".

Devastating.

And then it set in further that you've just learned its your daughter. Double-devastating. Would have been just as devastating with a son, but knowing either way made it that much more real.

Thankfully, the medical condition was rare, but was also well-understood in some circles. Our OB did connect us to some specialists. Our specialist knew this condition well and there ended up being a lot of options, some of which were scarier than others. But it never came to that. We were blessed that it resolved itself by the time she was born.

She is a spitfire. She's happy, she's healthy. And I'm so glad for her.

I'm pretty sure I was spoiled but not sure.

I think the Vader thing was spoiled for me too. But maybe it was that Luke and Leah were siblings.

Definitely Darth and Luke, but it was my wife that had it spoiled by our nephew. Being the saint she is, she didn't tell me, but she was really upset about knowing about it.

For those saying they were spoiled about Vader, are y'all meaning back in 1980? Or more recently? I grew up in the 80s, but too young for Empire until mid to late 80s. I kind of just knew about Luke and Vader. I wouldn't really say there was one specific moment I was spoiled for it, it was just something every kid knew, even if you didn't see the movies. I assume that's how people are today, too. I've always found it weird when people say to not spoil it, because it just seems like collective knowledge at this point.

I was in the news blackout of all blackouts leading up to Mass Effect 3, and I still had someone - who definitely knew better - spoil something cool from a trailer, because they were too excited not to.

Punkass. Nothing too huge but every time I get to that part I think "this must have been really cool if you didn't see it coming…"

I thankfully saw Empire in the theater as a 6 year old kid and did not have it spoiled. But between that news + Han being captured/frozen, I still vividly remember being one pissed off, wound up kid playing with my action figures for the rest of the day.

I remember there was some controversy around Phantom Menace. When it was being uber-hyped - as well as it could be in the early internet era - the soundtrack was released a week or two before the movie.

One of the track titles was "Qui-Gon's Death Scene" or something like that

A twist to the thread:

The worst spoiler non-giveaway I've ever endured:

The Crying Game. Had someone had the decency to tell me that the chick was actually an Algerian boxer, I'd have never gone with my dad when I was 15. Hell, we thought it was a good IRA movie and then I nearly tossed up my popcorn.

My neighbor's tv was 4-5 seconds ahead of mine when watching the 2012 Alabama game (cable vs satelite). It was a duplex with thin walls and he yelled in excitement so loud at the goal line interception. They hadn't even snapped the ball on my tv. All of the feeling and emotions drained out of me before my tv caught up to that moment.

It's not quite the same, but I still think about it after all these years.

Thai thread should look like a declassified FBI document, and yet all I see are spoilers without anybody using a tag.

I will share an anecdote about the Others.

I was in high school when I saw it. I was on a double date and me and this guy who didn't like each other liked both of these girls who were best friends. This guy was our starting QB and I was the backup but we were willing to set aside our differences because both these girls liked us and wanted to do a double date.

We meet them at the movies. They drive their car there and he drove me and him. We're about to get out of the car with the girls just a couple of cars away and walk in together. Before he opens the door, he likes start to pump himself up, gets worked uo and then he just lets the rankest, longest fart possible go.

"That's absolutely the worst thing ever. What the hell is wrong with you?" I say. I already think this guys a tool so anything he did I always thought was stupid.

He then looks at me seriously and goes, " I know you and I don't get along but let me give you some free advice. We're about to spend two hours with two gorgeous girls who like us and I'm (hits himself in the chest) not going to **** that up by farting in front of them. Farting in front of a chick is it man. You're done. You'll be wearing out both your palms for the rest of high school."

I just shake my head and get out of the truck thinking this guy is a ****** bag. About 60 minutes into the movie despite my best efforts Did you really need to click the spoiler to know what happened? Yes I farted. She heard it. Even worse he heard it. He had beaten me out at QB and now at life. He ripped me the entire way home. Lesson learned. He ended up being an alright guy. And I ended up being much wiser.

Lived walking distance from the movie theater back in the day. Was going to go watch fight club on Sunday night - but took a long afternoon nap. Woke up, looked at the time and sprinted to the theater. Ran in, it had already started so just jumped into available seat. I was still groggy and confused.

Then the credits started to play. Walked into the wrong screening and saw the last 10 minutes of the movie. Still followed up with my full showing, but knowing all along how it ends.

Yeah, Lucasfilm spoiled that one on its own when it released the movie's score on CD 3 weeks before the movie came out. One track was titled with those words, I believe.
