Linkin Park announced their reunion 7 years after Chester Bennington died and their new lead sing is Emily Armstrong from the band Dead Sara.

Made me start thinking about bands that tried to keep going after replacing the singer.

Off the top of my head:

Stone Temple Pilots: replaced Scott Weiland with (ironically) Chester Bennington and then another guy

Journey: Arnel Pineda replaced some dude who replaced Steve Perry

Blink 182: replaced Tom Delonge with Matt Skiba for 6 years

Obviously there's been a bunch more than just that

I saw STP at Dallas' House of Blues... Chester B. fronted the band at that show.

The Oak Ridge Boys

Yes has gone through Jon Anderson, Trevor Horn, Jon Anderson again, and Benoit David, and is currently on Jon Davison.

Asia has gone through John Wetton, John Payne, Billy Sherwood, Ron Bumblefoot Thal, and now Harry Whitely.

Smithereens lost Pat DiNizio, but continue on with either Marshall Crenshaw or Robin Wilson (of the Gin Blossoms).

Marillion fired Fish, and have carried on for 35+ years with Steve Hogarth.

King Crimson have gone through Greg Lake, Gordon Haskell, Boz Burrell, John Wetton, Adrian Belew, and Jakko Jaszyk.

Pink Floyd started with Syd Barrett, then Roger Waters & David Gilmour (with one or two Rick Wright vocals), and then just Gilmour.

Foreigner have gone through Lou Gramm, Johnny Edwards, and now Kelly Hansen.

Bad Company started with Paul Rodgers, Brian Howe, Robbie Hart, then back to Paul Rodgers.

Chicago - Cetera officially left in 1985
INXS - kept playing and recording for 15 years after lead singer died from uhhh, you know.

Quiet Riot still continues to tour

Natalie Merchant was lead singer from '81 to '93......and they were phenomenal

Mary Ramsey joined in '94 and is still the lead.........couldn't name one song of theirs with her at the helm

Not at all. They became a different, and I would argue, better band.

I hate when bands replace a lead singer and continue on as the same band. I know Van Halen and Sabbath are a couple of the successful examples of this, but I just wish most bands would rebrand. To me, it feels like i'm just watching a cover band.

With a band like Blink, I completely stopped listening to them after Delonge left for that time. It's not Blink 182 for me, so no thank you.

Released 1 album with original lead singer Jesse Leach. He left the band and they replaced him with Howard Jones. Jones left the band after 9 years and 4 albums, and Leach returned. Leach has now been the lead singer again since 2012 and they've released 3 more albums in that time.

They've been nominated for Grammy's with both singers.


Heard the new Linking Park song on the way to work this morning. I thought the new singer's voice fit the vibe of Linkin Park pretty well.

Nightwish went from Tarja Turunen to Anette Olzon and then to Floor Jansen. Floor Jansen is by far the best of the three.

Three Days Grace - Adam Gontier got addicted to oxy, got sober, wrote massive hit songs, and suddenly left the band to be replaced by Matt Walst. Still have some good music, but not the same as Adam's distinct voice.

Drowning Pool after Dave Williams was found dead, but no real hits after Bodies and Sinner.
