On rotten tomatoes. Are people simply stupid? This movie is incredible. Too weird or gory? I know it's not for everyone, but what do people exoect, it's a revenge movie about the damned vikings. Of course there will be dark magic, mythology and gore. Dumb audiences.

Totally forgot I even watched that movie. I thought it was pretty average overall. I actually can't remember anything about it off the top of my head right now besides Viking revenge movie. I don't remember if that one chick showed her tits or not. Honestly if you asked me to rate it, I'd probably give it a 6.4/10. Sounds about right.
Because it was boring. For a revenge flick the ending wasn't really satisfying at all. Not a bad movie, that score sounds about right IMO.

Parts were ok but the sum total was kinda cringe IMO.

It's average because most of the movie sucks.
Its a great movie if you're into Eggers' type of filmaking and stories he likes to tell. I am, so I liked it. But I also loved The Witch and Nosferatu (didn't like The Lighthouse).
But the majority of people want to see a Vikings tv show type of action and storytelling, and that's likely what they expected going into it when they saw "Ooo, vikings!" in the trailer. Hence the "artsy fartsy" reactions.

I was excited to watch it. At the end of the movie, I just sat there asking myself, "What the hell did I just watch?"
Did not like this movie and don't understand why so many do.

My wife and I must be pretty dumb. We didn't like it much at all. I wear the badge proudly.
Now we're judging people's intelligence based on what movies they should or should not enjoy. It's a personal preference, not an IQ test.

Same. I think I will continue to buy whatever Eggers is selling. But I do think that his films, the diolague especially are not for the mass audience, which is probably why it wasn't well received. I'm not calling "you" dumb, but if you don't pay attention, and use your brain, it might be hard to fully enjoy this film. I always suggest subtitles for his films.FL_Ag1998 said:

It's my favorite Robert Eggers movie (note: I haven't watched The Lighthouse yet).

Maybe I've been drinking too much Brawndo, but I'm not sure how a 6.4 out of 10 audience score is bad.
I also enjoyed The Northman more than it seems general audiences did.

My son said the plot was terrible.
It was somewhat entertaining, but not one I'll watch over and over again.
I am not the Six Million Dollar Man, but I might need that surgery. "We have the technology, we can rebuild him!"

I don't want to put any spoilers in here but I remember the ending making it seem as though the murdered father wasn't exactly a peach, either.
the part where they smell their own farts and belches is a perfect representation of the movie as a whole.
