Luckily she got the help she needed, but I can't imagine how much shame and embarrassment she likely felt afterwards. All of her fellow students and family were witnessing this meltdown.

In the past I've worked with an organization and therefore know several people (some close to me) with mood disorders ranging from Bipolar I and Bipolar II to Cyclothymia. It's treatable, but it is difficult and and can be very expensive. Many of these people are living off disability and cannot hold onto employment making it an uphill battle. They turn to self-medicating and are then given a dual-diagnosis.
