Saw another post about the anticipation of Marvel's Infinity War and Endgame movies. Those were likely two of the most anticipated movies for me ever. But that was an anticipation I hadn't had in a long time.
For me, I'd say the most anticipated was The Empire Strikes Back, but probably more accurately it was Return of the Jedi. I was 10 when Star Wars came out. I can't say I really knew much about movies, didn't have access to the movie information we have nowadays, and am not even sure when I learned that a second Star Wars movie was being made. But I do recall seeing a trailer for it, attached to the END - after credits - of Star Wars, in August 1979. That next 9 months was hell for me waiting for Empire to release.
But with Jedi, I knew that was being made in 1980. Three years. My daughter whined about having to wait a year between Infinity War and Endgame; I referred her to that 3 year wait between Empire and Jedi.
Other titles with similar anticipation for me would be Batman '89 and The Phantom Menace.
