So if the movie logic dictates that the results in the almanac change in the alternate timeline, the question then becomes when does it change. Right after a result changing event happens, or once the game takes place in the alternate reality?

Say a young OJ Simpson gets hit by a bus on a visit to Hill Valley. Do USC and Bills games update automatically? Or do the games themselves actually have to take place before the almanac changes? If the latter then the almanac definitely loses its usefulness.

I agree with this. The almanac would constantly be updating to what is the correct result based on the occurrences in that reality. No different than the picture or news paper. He couldn't go make a bet too far in advance because the score could still update.

I think it would be too risky to bet on a championship winner at the beginning of a season because there's too many variables that could affect the outcome. But a horse race right ahead of time, there are less external variables.

When things started changing in the original, didn't his oldest sibling start disappearing first?

If that were the case, as soon as he got the book, the earliest things in the book would start changing. You would have to think meeting your older self would cause enough of a ripple to start the timeline change.

He'd almost have to win it early because things would constantly be updating there would be no way to predict what would/wouldnt update later on.

it would probably go blank like the "You're Fired" Fax. Basically, the paper still exists, but what is on it can change.

Finally watching "Outlander" now and I'm plagued with similar questions about the space-time continuum.

Someone suggested earlier that he simply buy the company that made the almanac to ensure it would still be produced.
