Didn't see another thread about this Amazon Prime show. Just watched the latest Reacher and happened to see this listed as a new show, though I had heard nothing about it.

Just watched the first episode and was very impressed with the production value and story so far. I've also thought it was a travesty we haven't gotten a live action telling of David's life. The first three episodes are currently available, so looking forward to continuing on. If anything, I definitely want to support a series like this as long as it isn't bad. Want to make sure Hollywood knows stories like these are worth making.

Honestly, my only complaint after the first episode is that it's in English. With the short scene of David singing in Hebrew, I kind of wish the entire show were in Hebrew.

There was a kinda sorta retelling of David's life with the very short lived show "Kings" on NBC in the late 2000s. It was the story of David set in modern times. If memory serves, it wasn't completely horrible, it just never caught on.

Anyway, thanks for the review. I have been curious about this ever since it popped up on Prime.

I remember King's, I liked it.

Kings was a pretty good show because it offered a modern take on the rise of David. This one looks terrible.

It's like the Amazon studio heads told the data analytics guy to tweak the algo so House of David would ensure the show capturers viewers who liked Shogun and GoT yet are OK with a fan-fiction portrayal of one of the Bible's most known stories.

It's produced by the same company who did The Chosen.

Saw the trailer for this last night. Looks interesting enough to give it a watch. Of course, I'm familiar with the story of David, from Goliath to Bathsheeba and his place in the lineage that led to Christ Jesus. I'm normally not going to trust Hollywood with anything remotely Christian, but given that I have enjoyed what I saw of The Chosen, I am hopeful that the story of David will be done as per the Biblical stories, at least as much as possible.

No. The Chosen is produced by 5&2, which is owned by Dallas Jenkins. Their funding originally was crowdsourced through Angel Studios, but as of Season 4, it's all 5&2.

It is actually remotely Jewish

seeing as how the Christians would not come on the scene for literally another 980 years.

Great. Thanks for pointing that out.

I am neither Jewish nor a Biblical scholar. I have read the Bible a couple of times over the years. So when I say something as above (not remotely Christian), that comes from my years of attending Christian churches such as Kingsland Baptist or Second Baptist.

Jesus was Jewish but is still arguably in the Christian canon. The story of David is also in the Quran. The Mormans have drawn their lessons.

All the branches have just added their latest chapters after the previous ones, and the story of David belongs to them all.

Started watching this series. Really enjoying it. David's brother, Eliab, has some good fight scenes!

I did like this actress who plays "Mirab", one of King Saul's daughter. She goes to a celebration party after a victory and comes off with a "Audrey Plaza" vibe. She's kind of a smart ass.

I love the story of David and this has been pretty good so far. I'm only on episode 3 so...fingers crossed! He's pretty bad ass with that sling shot too by the way!

The next major project for 5&2 is going to be centered around Moses.

Wife and I have really been enjoying it. They have done a good job of giving good visuals and context to what is in the Bible. At times it feels it is going a little slow and some parts seem to more filler than advancing the story.
I like how Samuel is done and how they have portrayed Saul going mad.

So ready for the latest episode. This past one was great with the "Giants Awaken". I found it really interesting how they got Goliath to side with the Philistines. He was pretty pissed off. I felt bad for Mirab and Jordan, they were a good couple. Saul's conversation with Mirab before was a sweet father/daughter talk. Saul is indeed crazy...haha

I really enjoy this show, David is one of my favorite bible characters and it's fun to watch it on the screen.

I'm so bad at the weekly watching. I've decided to wait until all episodes are released to watch. I prefer that for most shows.

But they killed his mom, and she idiotically fell for the ruse and told him it was Saul. He is about to be yet another unfortunate victim to that assassin dude.

Doeg the Edomite, a chief servant of King Saul, is a figure from the Bible known for his betrayal of David and his role in the massacre of the priests of Nob, as depicted in 1 Samuel 22. I assume there were some liberties taken in House of David to have him be the one to kill Orpah, the mom. He was on the look out who the one Samuel anointed. Doeg also could have seen them conspire with the Philistines earlier but was not aware of their decision to not help fight unless Goliath was the one to Rule after Israel's defeat

Maybe I'm forgetting... I thought Doeg was working for the Philistines when he stabbed Oprah and that he was framing Saul in order to get the giants to join the Philistines in their fight against the Saul?

I was confused by that too, thought it was a frame job but it was just dumb luck against Saul. Doeg is with the house of Saul. He was out under orders from Abner to find who Samuel anointed. That's my understanding, maybe I missed something. When I looked him up, he's one of Saul's servants. I think he thought he was doing right but he only kicked the hornet's nest!

I've only watched it once and it was last Thursday... but my memory says this:

That Doeg was initially under orders from Abner to track down whoever Samuel anointed. I don't remember how he found himself to Philistene castle and talking to one of their kings, but he saw Goliath leave without a deal. He said something like, "there are other ways to get what you want".

I assume he is just an opportunist who made yet another deal with another king.

Just caught the lastest episode where he confronts Goliath. Great episode. Was great to see that battle on screen. I wonder how far they'll go with this series?

Watching latest episode now. I cannot keep staring at David's nose. Is this a prop on the actor?
