Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this, but I am looking for some help. I want to put on a Music Festival catering to our Hispanic guests - alas, this is not an area of music that I have much knowledge in, and I figured I would ask Texags - what acts would you like to see?

I have a list of acts from various agents, but the only one I have ever heard of is Los Tigres del Norte; are there other bands out there in that vein that you all would suggest?

Thanks,

One stage? Multiple stages?

Probably want to narrow your list down and look at your target audience...is it predominantly Mexican influence or a mix of everything? And if it's a true melting pot, do you try and book some tejano or norteño acts as well as reggaeton or cumbia etc.

If its in Texas I'd just stick with the best you can afford out of the tejano/conjunto scene. Go to your local hispanic grocery store and check out the flyers on the bulletin board (you know, the ones with the garage sales or handyman for hire stuff) and see if there's any acts being advertised there, etc. Find out which acts get the most airplay if you've got a regional mexican formatted station in the area.

Just a couple of thoughts. If all else fails, just pony up enough cash to get Flaco Jimenez and whoever he's playing with these days (Max Baca is a good bet) and roll with it.

Tried to book 2/3s of this one back when I was at another casino. Missed it by that much.

This is for a casino 1 day music festival. Definitely 1, maybe two stages. Louisiana casino targeting Texas guests, I am looking at a melting pot, this is open to everyone.

For example, I am looking at a couple of other festival options, such as a Reggae music festival, a 90's music festival and more. Basically something to cater to our Hispanic guests in this case, and allow others to get a taste of that music scene. Not much like that going on over here, and we want to offer it.

And my local Hispanic grocery stores are tiny, and no such boards exist - that was the first place I went. Was hoping to find some local opening acts.

Appreciate those names, I will definitely look into them and see if they are within the budget.

And, for big names, look at who the Houston Rodeo is bringing in for Tejano day.

George Lopez is extremely divisive right now. the casino booked him before I got here, and when the show was posted, the comments were EXTREMELY negative. I'm having to watch that show very carefully right now. (So yes, it's easy to figure out where I work at this point).

This is a great idea. Going off your location clues, I'd check out this radio station..

https://www.estrellatv.com/es/live/la-raza-houston-985-fm

I'd go with any of the artists played in heavy rotation on this station. I don't disagree with any of the suggestions on this thread, but I'm also from south Texas, so the Ramon Ayala/David Lee Garza/Little Joe types are in my knowledge base. However, i don't know the current scene all that well and i never really knew how popular the music was anywhere else. It's been a while (10+ years) since i had any decent connection to the regional mexican formatted radio stations but the first artists that came to mind were Los Tigres del Norte, Intocable and Juanes. Then i thought....damn everyone loves Flaco right? He's timeless.

The 90s fest though....that sounds awesome. I heard Kat Corbett on Lithium/SXM the other day mention Fastball, Sugar Ray and some other lower tier 90s band(s) were touring this summer. It's nice being in that Gen X money demo. 20 years ago the "Arrowfest" type lineups with Kansas, Styx, REO Speedwagon types were the rage. It's our time now. Give me all the 90s.

The high school I used to teach at had a competitive Mariachi band that would always play gigs like this. It was great exposure for them, a decent filler for the festival, and usually a crowd pleaser.

I don't know that you will find one in your area, but it might be worth a shot.

They are awesome and a great crossover for people who are new to that style of music.

No idea what type of sound you're going for. Old traditional stuff (some good ones listed), Spanish Rock (usually pretty popular) and Christian Nodal is pretty big right now.
