90's by a good margin overall but my favorite type of rock music didn't take off really until 2000s.

But we can all agree Duran Duran, A-Ha and Toto would kick all their asses.

What? Emo crap?
System of a Down
Foo Fighters
White Stripes
The Killers
The Strokes
Audioslave
Muse
Etc.

The foo fighters biggest songs were in the 90s. White Stripes and Audioslave were good. I like some System of a Down, but they are hit or miss. Killers and Muse are incredibly overrated. Mr Brightside might be one of the worst songs ever.

You are welcome to your opinion, but not a troll. Can't stand the killers or muse.

As much as I do think the 90s rock bands clear these bands by quite a bit, this did remind me that despite my pessimistic view of 2000s rock legacy these are unarguably same great bands (except for Audioslave, ugh)

Audioslave has grown on me big time the older I get. But yeah some of those other bands are my favs, esp SOAD.

May not be a troll but your post was wrong. Early 00s was far more than emo and probably the last real era of rock music we had. The genre pretty much died off circa 2010.

Muse is incredible, especially live. The fact that that sound comes out of three guys is unreal.

Biased by my personal preference and I do enjoy some 2000s pop punk, but 90s alt rock is still all over the radio for a reason. And agree with whoever said New Miserable Experience is an all timer.

2000's for sure. Texas country and red dirt alone put it over anything from the 90's.

Add in Blink 182 and you have a clear winner.

I've always considered Blink-182 as a '90s band.

As someone who still listens to a lot of terrestrial radio, '90s music has a staying power that '00s music never had/will have.

Generally agree with you but there have been eras that completely changed the music game.

Isn't music from 2000 and on just sampled music from the 90's and earlier?

If I had this question I think I would need to seriously re-evaluate what kind of music I was listening to

I was born in '87, so grew up with 90's music through about 2005ish. I know everyone always has opinions on the music from their middle-school through high school years, but I think those in my age group have an even better argument because rock as a popular form of music pretty much died after I started college in '05. There was a last little death rattle, but pretty much died.

I guess for that reason, I just bundle in 2000-2005 with 90's music in my mind, especially because most of the better bands in that time were from the 90's anyway outside of the big surge of pop-punk bands coming out in that time frame.

I mean... it's crazy the difference between the the top 25 streamed songs from the 90's versus what you would see in the same list from the last 10 years. I would be surprised to see any rock songs on that list from the last 10 years. If there are any, they would probably be songs that many would argue aren't even rock.

speaking of 90's 1 hit wonders:

And would you call it to His face
If you were faced with Him in all His glory?
What would you ask if you had just one question?
Hellya, Joan Osbourne, Natalie Imbruglia, Natalie Merchant, Sarah Mclachlan, Dido, Lisa Loeb...all included on my "1990's Eckerd's" Spotify playlist. Never be ashamed to listen to any of those.

Lonely cat ladies made some top notch contemporary adult rock back in the 90's.
Natalie Imbruglia in the Torn video is every proper GenX boy's dream. Stunningly cute.

You can't mention 90s one hit wonders and that genre and not include Meredith Brooks and the song (*****) everyone thought was Alanis Morisette and perfectly cloned her style.
