Ok, now I really want to see the next live-action Predator movie set in fuedal Japan with Samurais in their masks taking on the monster.

The one downside to the new Spiderverse movies is that now others are trying to emulate the herky jerky look and doing it poorly. It looked pretty good in Spiderverse and Puss n Boots, but here it just felt like a low FPS game.

When I saw it was animation, my initial response was ugh.

When I finished the preview, my final response is hell yeah, can't wait.

Shooting down WWII planes with a space ship doesn't seem really sporting to me.

I had the same thought. That Wildcat pilot didn't stand a chance.

But then neither did any of the guys from Arnold's original cast. I mean, the Indian stood on a log bridge with a big-ass knife looking toward the trees when the freaking thing came at him from beneath the bridge. No chance there either. But like the Indian, the Wildcat pilot did possess 4-6 machine guns with which to fight back.

So a little more context here, what you're referring to is that they're animating on 2s, i.e. each "drawing" is held for 2 frames. This is how traditional animation was often done in the past, it's more noticeable on stop motion animation but in both cases it originated from cost and time savings (you're only using 12 frames or poses per second rather than 24).

Spider-Verse is a totally unique case because they were insanely smart about how they used it. In the early scenes where Miles is learning to swing he's animated on 2s which makes him seem a bit more abrupt and unrefined, while later in the film he's animated on 1s which makes him feel much smoother and in control.

All that to say, this does look to be animated on 2s and I'm not quite sure it's working yet, it's a very clear aesthetic choice but I'll have to see it more in context of the overall film to understand why they're doing it and fairly pass judgement on it.

But either way, this looks totally badass and as a Predator fan I'm SO in.

If I remember right in that scene where he was learning to swing, he was on 2s but Peter was on 1s, further pushing the appearance you're referring to.

Definitely seems like we'll be getting more of a societal view of them which could be super interesting.

Did Trachtenberg make a deal that gave him the influence to take over the Predator franchise or has it just kind of worked out that way? Because he's gone from relatively obscurity to driving some big budget name projects pretty quickly (with hints at crossing over with a bigger franchise as well).

Good news and also super interesting that The Third Floor did this. You may not have heard of them but they do previz for pretty much every MCU film and tons of other action movies.

Two Predator movies! Badlands looks badass.

So, Alien, Predator, and Independence Day are all now in the same universe? Seems like another shot at doing something like the Monsterverse.

There's a short story in Target Rich Environment vol 2 by Larry Correia with that exact theme.

Watched this last night and really, really liked it. They left it open for a sequel which I hope they do.

Fun little movie. The first two arcs I liked the areas they picked. When the 3rd arc started, I'm thinking, what???? How's this going to work but they made it work.

Finished last night and thought it was fun, really enjoyed the second story arc in particular. And the animation style worked for what it was, though I'm still curious on some of the choices.

Would definitely watch a sequel, it could also totally work as just another anthology of stories exploring different time periods and regions.

I really enjoyed it. The feudal Japan segment was my favorite. The creativity was off the charts with Predator types and weaponry. My only criticisms are some of the gore felt gratuitous and dialogue a bit ham-fisted.

That was much better than I was anticipating it to be. Vikings heads don't seem to have been attached too well, but that's a minor complaint. The Japanese setting was extraordinary visually and for the action. I really enjoyed that. Predators are definitely bullies, but I liked the close and what it could set up for future efforts. Definitely worth a watch even if you've given up on the franchise.

Watching now. Can you lay them out with spoiler tags? Not sure if you mean they are self contained in this movie, or Easter eggs from the franchise

I may have used ''easter egg'' incorrectly, regardless there were several call backs to previous movies. Such a scene.

without spoilers:

Viking segment: call back to Arnold raising the tree to kill the predator.
Samurai segment: hiding under the bridge and holding on similar to how Arnold hung under the tree bridge.

There were a couple others but i cant recall at the moment, they were little things for sure
