Only thing I didn't care for was the way they told the story.

The way they told the story is why it's such a good movie

My nearly 20 year old, home for the summer from A&M, was supposed to go with me this weekend but went with his friends tonight instead. I acted butthurt but in reality I am glad he went with friends instead of boring dad lol.

I'm at a point where I'll see anything with Brolin. Probably my favorite actor in Hollywood.

He's great...has the alpha/a-hole shtick in the bag. One of my favorite lines is from Sicario 2 when he and his partner and "Medellin" are cruising through the mall parking lot in McAllen and almost hit that little Cartel-Coyote kid, who cusses them out and slaps the hood before realizing these are guys not to be messed with. After the kid and Medellin stare each other down, they start rollin and he says in a frustrated tone "You can't even tell they're gangbangers anymore".

Such a simple line but the timing and delivery were on point...and it's such a true statement. When I was growing up in the 80's and 90's, the gang members basically advertised themselves and made it very clear who they were. Now they blend in, and often look clean cut, aside from the ones rocking the "Edgar" haircut.

Easily one of the best movies of the year so far.

Absolutely loved it.

See it with an audience for sure.

This. I cannot imagine the story being told any other way. The structure is such a huge part of what makes it all play so well.

I initially wasn't the biggest fan of it, but honestly there is no other way to tell this in a compelling way and in retrospect can only be told by a competent film maker. The fact that this is his second film speaks volumes.

Looks like Weapons is taking the weekend with $38M over Freakier Friday's $30M.

That is pretty surprising. I remember listening to several podcasts thinking FF would take it

Went at 11:30am today and my theater was packed. Loved this movie. What a fun and wild ride. Horror fans really are eating well in the last few years.

Kinda wish they edited part of Brolin's dream sequence out, as it made the whole allegory feel aggressively on the nose…not that they weren't going for the obvious allegory to begin with. Nevertheless, it felt silly and unnecessary, and it didn't really seem to add anything to the underlying message.

Thought it was a lot of fun and well done. Mirror a lot of you guys thoughts... Love everything Brolin is in. I never did Ozark but Garner was killing it way back in The Americans.

Like the previous post, I thought the dream sequence with the "weapon" was probably the weakest part of the film and it was a tiny, tiny part. Only other real complaint was that the biggest scare was the most telegraphed one, and way too similar to his previous film.

Felt like some nods to Kubrick/King with the parents in the splintered door, and I felt like he gave us a huge Romero-The-Crazies-esque misdirect with the signal tower (and the movie name). Felt like this was leaning "government testing mind control for weaponization gone awry" the whole time but instead shifted into a parasite-esque entity. Doubt it was inspired by, but definitely got a Longlegs vibe from "Gladys" in the way she looks, acts, and the fact that we really have no idea who she necessarily is.

Didn't find it particularly scary, but enjoyed it quite a bit.

Just got out and our theater was completely packed. Pretty surprising. I haven't seen a movie in a packed theater in this town in probably 10 years.

Overall I enjoyed it. Definitely weird and didn't love the ending but I see why it ended that way. Felt like a rewritten ending to me for some reason.

I am glad I saw this in theaters as I would have struggled at home with the pacing. It was interesting but the were some SLOOW parts

This movie was awesome. The fact that the trailers for this movie give absolutely nothing away but the first 2 minutes and vibes is incredible. More of this please.

This movie is a fun ride, much like his first feature, but he is balancing much more, and there are several more moments that, if he didn't stick, the whole thing goes from fun, abusurd, thrilling, funny, to eye-rolling camp. Its a fine line to be certain, but he somehow walks it and makes it look incredibly easy.

Left the theater with a smile and I can't wait to see what Cregger does next*.

*checks notes...its Resident Evil remake. Can we not have ALL the creative directors tied up in IP?!?!!?!?

Reboot, not remake.

The previous RE franchise had basically zero resemblance to the source material.

We saw it Saturday and really enjoyed it. Cregger has come a long way since fingerbanging manatees.

Saw it this weekend, too, and loved it.

I would love to see a prequel of Gladys. Her story has to be insane.

Liked the movie a lot, the different perspectives was great.

The end was too long and had most people laughing which was unlikely the goal of the director.

I'd agree it was too long, but it was absolutely intended to be slapstick.

How anyone could think the humor was unintentional is beyond me.

It pretty much ruined the ending, so if done intentionally….it was a dumb choice.

Hard disagree. As tense and as serious as the movie was throughout, it also had a playful/absurd undertone from the jump, and the ending was simply a culmination of that undertone. Re: the climax, IMO, it was also incredibly satisfying, watching the events unfold in exactly the ways they did. I absolutely loved it, as did most of the audience, it seems.

That said, just FYI, here's the spoiler thread so specifics aren't accidentally spilled here…

I agree it had some funny parts but IMO the chase lasted way too long and didn't need to be absurd, may as well have the Benny Hill chase music added to it.

Otherwise it was a great movie.
