A character from the first episode of Doctor Who back in 1963 is coming back in 2025 -- same character, Susan Foreman, played by Carole Ann Ford!

That's gotta be some kind of record.

I think that the first episode of Doctor Who was broadcast the day after President Kennedy was assassinated.

That's interesting and would certainly seem like it. I know nothing about soap operas except that some of them have gone on since the 50s so I did some quick looking and according to this these are the records.

"As of 2025, William Roache holds the Guinness World Record for the longest-serving actor in a television soap opera, having played Ken Barlow on Coronation Street since 1960.[2][3][a] Patricia Greene holds a similar record as the longest-serving actor in a radio soap opera, having joined the cast of The Archers as character Jill Archer in 1957."

Am I the only one who has never seen Dr Who? I didn't even know what it was until sometime in college (early 2000s).

I've always been aware of its existence, being a fan of classic sci-fi in general since I was a kid in the 70s, but no, I've never seen a single episode.

Dick Van Dyke going form 1964-2018 between Mary poppins and Mary Poppins 2 was pretty impressive.

He's still kicking. He could do an episode of the Dick Van Dyke show

It finally got so woke that I quit watching it. It seems to me that "woke" leads to "boring".

I may make an exception for this episode, though.

This is Dick Van Dyke balling out on a Disney show at age 94 in 2019.

He'll turn 100 in December.

I caught it on PBS in the 70's as a little kid looking for something to watch. There were some creepy characters on there even with the limited special effects and budgets of that era.

You are not. I had heard the name but nothing else really. I even really like science fiction. Was just at a conference in San Diego and walking through Balboa park decided to go into the ComiCon museum. Like 40% of the museum was a Dr Who exhibit. Literally had to look it up to get some context on what I was getting in to.

I had a clever ******* of a buddy introduce me to it via Karen Gillan. Then he showed me the origin of the "Weeping Angels." After that, I watched most of the ones with David Tennant and Matt Smith, but that's about it.

Speaking of Karen Gillan, it blew my mind when I learned that she is the actress who plays Nebula. I'm still not sure I believe it.
