Started on Apple TV last night. Starring John Krasinski and Natalie Portman. Strong Indiana Jones/National Treasure vibes.

I thought it was fun. Guy Ritchie's signature style with unique dialogue, big star power, and big action sequences, including a cool scooter chase. It's not his best work, far from perfect, has plot holes, but it was enjoyable enough for a Friday night popcorn flick.
I found it fun to point out where I thought they got inspiration for their sequences.
I saw Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (in two distinct sequences), Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, National Treasure, The Mummy (1999), and even Raise the Titanic in Fountain of Youth.
It was a fun movie.

I kind of found this to be a weird movie
I found Krasinski entirely off putting and I normally love the guy. Just straight up dismissing his sister when she is clearly pointing out something g obvious to anyone who isn't looking at their phone the whole time while watching. Just seemed really smug without a reason to be. I just don't think it was the right direction for the character
Natalie Portman felt like the definition of doing this for the paycheck.
Acting across the board felt phoned in
Set pieces were great but this is not remotely going into the pantheon of National Treasure or the Mummy

The movie was fun enough but they both felt very overacted.
Krasinski is generally really charming but this felt like he was trying to play a part written for Ryan Reynolds, it was this kind of smarmy delivery that just didn't work. And Portman was just so sarcastic and dismissive in every line she delivered as the disapproving sister.

I'm watching this now, and I'm enjoying it, but it does feel like a made for TV version of National Treasure. I'm very glad this wasn't released in theaters, but it's a good fit for streaming.
Same feelings here. It was an ok movie, but the acting and characters weren't great, the music was blah, and overall just felt like it was all somehow sub-par. Worth watching, but not something I'll want to re-watch.Saxsoon said:

Watched it last night. Settings and locations were awesome. Acting suuuuuucked. Story was lame as well with major pieces almost beat for beat taken from other movies which did them better.

I double checked after 20 minutes that I wasn't on Netflix.
Thought it was really good. The ending was quite predictable but tons of action and an interesting plot with decent to good writing.
I don't get the JK hate on this one. Thought he played the role pretty well and outshined everyone. 2nd best actor in this flick was the INTERPOL detective.
Would definitely watch a sequel and give it a 7.5/10.

Clear ripoff of Ponce de Leon.

I thought it was awful.
I enjoyed it with my son for what it was. It was fun but nothing spectacular.
For someone who's read his fair share of Clive Cussler Dirk Pitt novels, I caught a couple of references.
Sure raising the Lusitania was a clear nod to Raising the Titanic, but the car chase with the Shelby Cobra? A favorite of Dirk's as well.

Yeah I was just watching the clock waiting to get through it by the end. Just a mishmash of every other one of these ever made, including the national treasure movies with secret passage after secret passage. He was smug, she was just kinda there, the chick chasing him was the most interesting part of the movie for me. Maybe if enough time passes and I forget how meh it was I would watch a sequel if I were bored. Who knows.
