Did I miss the thread on Ballerina?

One word: flamethrowers.

It had more John Wick in it than I thought it would. Wife and I enjoyed it.

Took my wife and daughter. They both loved it despite having never or maybe only once seen any John Wick movie. I thought it was a worthy entry to the series, with a compelling story that gives the character, Eve, a legitimate reason to root for. I hope they make a couple more of these.

It was great. I love all things John Wick and this absolutely delivered.

Ana De Armas and the movie both looked incredible. And had some amazing kills.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I'm glad she had me rewatch John Wick 3 for the seamless way they tied Ballerina in. Hoping for more Eve movies!

And some fun and creative bad guy deaths is right! Act 3 was great.

Saw it last night and thought it was great. Lots of unique stunt work and fight scenes that really emphasized the desperation behind Eve's every move. The flamethrower duel was absolutely incredible. A+ entry into the Wickiverse.

I slept through half of it. I was really tired though. I was up too late working last night. I will try to watch it when it streams. From what I saw, though, it didn't have enough JW in it. He sells it.

It had more John Wick than I expected. And they brought Charon (Lance Reddick) back from the dead.

Not really. The events in Ballerina occur concurrently with Parabellum, not after it. And Lance's scenes in Ballerina were filmed before he passed in 2023.

I know when the events of Ballerina take place.

Did NOT realize they filmed Lance's scenes prior to his passing. RIP.

If they did it after, we'd have a real story on our hands.

Not really, I thought they filled him in using unused shots from previous movies. Like they did with Carrie Fisher on The Rise of Skywalker.

They reused/recast Daniel Bernhardt again. He was the primary bodyguard guarding the son in the bathhouse scene. Had the extended fight with Wick before getting killed. Then he pops back up only to die again in Parabellum.

Then he popped back up in Ballerina, first on overwatch with the rifle at the Prague hotel, then in the Inn at the village when he dies.....again? 3rd times a charm?
Nobody cares. Work Harder

My 18-year-old daughter's favorite movie is Knives Out. She loves the twists and loves Ana De Armas' character. So when I showed her the trailer for Ballerina months ago, she's been begging to see it in the theater. This kid has never seen an R-rated movie!! I warned about the John Wick universe and she was like "great, let's go!" So tonight, I took her to see her first R-rated movie.

We both loved it. Really fun flick that had us cheering and laughing at some of the crazy kills. I never thought this would be the type of father-daughter moment I'd wish for but thanks to John Wick and Ballerina for making it happen!

Highlights for me were the sword play with the fire raging behind her and the flamethrower duel.
Daughter's favorite moment was the battle with John Wick.

My daughter is only 4 but I love this story.

Saw it this afternoon and had a lot of fun, worthy addition to the series and it expanded the universe in some interesting ways. Enjoyed seeing her training and kind of crazy that this entire town is this tribe/cult.

I would've liked to understand a bit more of her family history and who her mom and dad were, they had a slightly cliched moment with that (the other killer is her sister seemed a bit lazy) but didn't spend any time exploring all the connections there or even learning anything before other events happen. I also expected the story to turn to her protecting the daughter after Daryl Dixon was (apparently) killed.

One nitpick: was a little disappointed that the Prague Continental manager was just some dude, the managers in other cities have always been such colorful characters that he was a bit of a let down.

Will be my first Ana De Armas movie (I think) when I watch this on streaming.

And I just saw that a 5th JW movie is in development so I guess John Wick is basically The Crow in this next installment?

There's also a Caine/Donnie Yen spinoff in development as well as an animated prequel about the Impossible Task.

But yeah, very curious how a fifth film in the series would work. They've teased it as "very different".

For the record, I'm a big John Wick fan…original concept art for the poster.

I've been trying to give my wife the Wick basics (beagle, assassin hotel, nonstop death, etc) before we see Ballerina this weekend, but I guess it's not necessary?

I believe you have provided her all the background information she will need. If she likes movies such as these, she should enjoy Ballerina

Check YouTube for short recap videos. That's how I got my wife up to speed before seeing the last MI movie.

I feel like it might be useful to watch the first film just to get an understanding of the world, the Continental and the rules there, the coins, etc., not to mention the first film is incredible. But if you've outlined the basics it's probably not necessary, you get a pretty good understanding of what's going on in the exposition we get in this one.

Watched this two nights ago. Decent and fun action flick. Ana De Armas is pretty.

The cult village was interesting and beautiful. Made me want to go there minus the murderous, brainwashed villagers. I thought at first they were going to go Nazi pocket holdout in the mountains, but then they threw in an Indian and a couple of others that weren't Aryan. And Gabriel Byrne said it has been around for 200 years.

My wife and I watched this a couple of days ago and I enjoyed it a lot more than she did; even though Eve is an assassin she didn't like seeing her beaten on so much. She had a similar reaction to Atomic Blonde.

After discussing it yesterday, I'm confused why the cult was attacking Eve before she went after it. The SUV crew that tried to kill her after her hit in NYC, and the attack on the arms dealer in Prague were both prior to her involvement with the cult, and in the German town, they had no prior knowledge of her. What did we miss?
