I'm listening to the audiobook right now but I am not hooked. I think it's the guy's voice and delivery more than anything. I'll keep going because of the recommendations, but I'm tempted to bail and wait for the movie.

Finish the audiobook, it's worth it. If anything I'm more excited about the movie because of how great it was.

Hell yea, if you made it to that point I'm confident you'll make it to the finish line. To me that's the point of no return in the story, that's when they set the hook.

I rarely buy anything new because it will always get the 20% discount sometime… this is nuts though. Almost Star Wars tax nuts. I will say th new speed champions Delorean seems like a great deal at msrp.

Goodness that trailer is literally the whole book except like the last ten pages. I get that they wanted some of the comedy side of rocky and graces relationship to shine, but dang you don't have to show all of it.

Trailers showing WAY too much is not even a "trend" now in Hollywood, it's simply the way it is unfortunately.

Growing up if a trailer showed a ton of scenes or felt too long usually meant the movie sucked.

Just FYI, as someone who hasn't read the book, I feel like that trailer actually gives away the least plot of the three trailers so far. For book readers it feels spoilery because you of course know what all the imagery means, where all of the scenes fall in the story, etc. But for someone like me, after watching that, I still know nothing beyond "Ryan Gosling has to save the world with the help of alien who looks like a rock," and I learned that in the second trailer if not the first. Otherwise, it's all just pretty pictures and a fun vibe to me.

I guess as a book reader I can see that point but to me there's 3 big reveals and the trailer shows all of them if you know what to look for but making contact with the alien was the biggest of the 3 and it's definitely spoiled.

I guess they felt they needed that hook instead of just showing Ryan trying to save the world. Anyway, can't wait to see this in the theater because I think it will look incredible.

Ultimately, the story isn't super complex. However, there are several small moments and events that give the book it's unique personality and vibe. I think the trailer does more to reveal some of those than major plot.

I agree that the alien reveal is kinda big, but I think it was necessary to drive more interest. The studio needs to sell tickets, so you have to give the audience a reason to buy them.
