How long do you want to ignore this user?
I had not seen a specific thread started on it yet, but I was planning on seeing it by the end of the weekend. Today is the last day of regular showings at the Cinemark in B/CS before it goes to one showing a day. I saw the initial teaser a few days ago and then watched the full preview and got hooked, mainly because it doesn't reveal too much. Judging by some initial reviews online, it will take multiple viewings (which is fine), but it looks like a really good story.

There has been no publicity for this, never even heard of it til I saw a poster for it at the theater last weekend.

I did not care for Beau Is Afraid, but Aster is still "must see" for me.

Maybe we are far enough removed from COVID craziness for me to want to watch a movie centered around COVID. I remember The Bubble coming out and having no desire to watch it because we were still in the middle of the pandemic. I will check this one out when it comes out on a streaming service.

I probably will sometime today, too. 11:35pm on a Saturday night doesn't sound too appealing anymore.

Lots of discussion about the film here:

Glad I saw this, but 20 minutes too long. Phoenix was amazing. Emma Stone was a big non factor in this movie. Took a bit to get going. But once it did, what a ride. Could have done without Joaquin's dong, too.

I will echo a lot of what you said. I was engaged for most of the movie, but I felt I would have much rather enjoyed it more at home. However, I definitely would have needed the captions because there was certainly some background noise that I heard clearly in the theater that I would have struggled with at home.

Joaquin Phoenix killed the role. Not going to say its his best because it's like completely different than what he did in The Joker or Gladiator, but he gives 110%

I don't know if it will win any awards. I don't really care. It was a nice break from the general pop movies. Script was solid and quite frankly intense and mind numbing in a few parts. Enjoyed the satire on both sides of the pandemic. One of the reviews in the trailer said the country isn't ready to see this. In a way it may have felt too soon, but I thought it was spot on with a lot of things, especially since a lot of my extended family have different opinions on covid/vax/politics. And seeing how the youth and townspeople reacted with social media, etc. The Austin Butler subplot didn't do it for me...that if anything could have been cut.

Not a movie for everyone, but that's ok. I'll be looking forward to watching it again when it streams. It was 2 1/2 hours well spent. There were a decent amount of people in the theater, hopefully the thread helped get the word out.

I thought this movie was amazing and further solidified how talented Aster is. He's pretty much must see for me too at this point (although I still haven't seen Beau is Afraid cuz it's loooooong).

I despise all things Covid and get legit angry thinking back at what people and the government were capable of - the last thing I wanted to do was revisit it... but this movie is such an incredible and brilliant commentary on that time, satirizing the absolute worst it brought out in everyone and the ridiculous levels society can sink to.

The third act is absolutely bonkers... Don't want to spoil it, but this probably won't be everyone's cup of tea especially if they're not familiar with Aster's work. I loved it though.

Saw this last night and it was so great!

He takes no prisoners and somehow walks a fine line between humor, absurdity, and self reflection. And then when the wheels fall off it's so wildly entertaining that it works.

The cast is game and excellent.

It's not for everyone, and if you can't laugh at yourself or your tribe then half of the movie is going to offend you no matter where you align. It was cringey to revisit so much of that year, but may be the funniest movie I've seen in a long time.

Loved it. Hard recommend if you can stomach it.

We really liked this movie! It's almost unbelievable at times it's a true story. Sometimes I couldn't believe what I was looking at on the screen. It's fresh and original.

Resurrecting an old thread but I finally watched it today. I thought I somehow switched to a Tarantino film when he blew out of the gun store. Overall, I enjoyed the show as it was quite different from the run of the mill movie these days.

Watched this over the weekend and you nailed it, the third act absolutely goes off the rails. Didn't see that coming at all and it was a ride.

I'm not a big horror guy so this is the first of Aster's films I've seen, he's got a unique perspective and this was some interesting storytelling. I enjoyed it but it's definitely not for everyone, when I went looking for this thread I expected it to have been taken over in a different direction.
