If you recall.....what are the first 10 or so albums you owned??

Probably hard for kids and young adults today to relate but back in the day when you got your first stereo and got your first albums on your own - not your parents - it was huge. Talking about actual vinyl albums here (or cassette if that was your thing)_.

For me I got my first stereo with turntable, radio, and cassette player/recorder at Christmas 1978. Emerson brand all in one unit (not components). Something like this:

My first purchases in 1978-79 were kind of all over the place I suppose. But I still remember them. For most of these albums I listened to them all the way through many times.

The Wall - Pink Floyd
The Long Run - The Eagles
The Cars - debut album
Tom Petty - Damn The Torpedos
Red and Blue compilation albums - The Beatles
Off The Wall - Michael Jackson
C'est Chic - Chic
Parallel Lines - Blondie
Van Halen II - Van Halen
Pieces of Eight - Styx

Another early album purchase was John Lennon's Double Fantasy after his murder in December 1980. The first celebrity death that really hit me as I had just gotten into The Beatles. I mentioned in another thread today (my Beatles US discography post) that it was a tough listen with the interspersed Yoko Ono tracks and I think I only ever listened to it once.

Note: Yes, as a drummer, I was already into Rush but I had a buddy that owned all of those albums and we loaned each other albums all the time. So I didn't buy those older Rush albums. The first one I bought was Moving Pictures in 1981.

Those were the last Blondie and Chic albums I ever bought as I definitely went more rock, classic rock and prog rock after that.

My older sister never had a stereo (mostly a guy thing then) and she had some garbage records she played on our parent's system. Grease and Saturday Night Fever soundtracks plus a few K-Tel compilations of garbage top 40 songs.

My first album (bought with my own $) was Styx - Pieces of Eight. Great album. Others were a Pat Benatar album, Sammy Hagar's Three Lock Box, Saga, Krokus' Headhunter, Van Halen II, Iron Maiden's Piece of Mind.

Oh boy......that's a test.

I don't recall all 10, but my first was Kiss Alive II (that inner album spread was awesome!!!). Believe my next was Shout at the Devil. I was the youngest of 5, so usually just played my siblings stuff.

Can't name the first ten albums, but I distinctly remember being in 4th grade in 1985 and purchasing Songs from the Big Chair by TFF. It was the 1st album I bought.

It's been so long, so very hard to remember every single one. I do know the first albums I ever bought for myself were after Christmas of 2001. I was a freshman in high school and got a really nice Sony Walkman for Christmas, along with some Best Buy gift cards. I had my grandmother take me to Best Buy and I bought Take off Your Pants and Jacket and All Killer, No Filler. Those were the first CD's I ever bought for myself.

The rest are what I ended up buying within a year of getting my Walkman. I also have two stepbrothers, and the middle one started buying so many CD's from so many different artists after I had bought that initial run. He then got a CD burner for Christmas, 2002, so I started just ripping all the CD's he would buy:

Blink 182 - Take Off Your Pants and Jacket
Sum 41 - All Killer, No Filler
Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American
Green Day - International Superhits
Foo Fighters - One By one
Green Day - Dookie
Bowling for Soup - Drunk Enough to Dance
Incubus - Make Yourself
Sum 41 - Does This Look Infected
Green Day - Warning

Also... I just went into an old box and pulled out my old CD case that I bought back in 2001. It's still there with most of all my CD's from high school.

I certainly can't tell you the first 10 for sure but my first purchase was the Appettite for Destruction cassette. The one with the banned cover. My second was Appettite for Destruction because my mom threw away my first one. It wasnt the banned cover. My third was either Hysteria or Appettite for Destruction. I learned to hide my cassettes because I had to buy another copy of Hysteria.

I dont know exactly my next purchase but the probably included Led Zeppelin 4, And Justice For All, and Cowboys from Hell.

I had an 8 Track Player and one of the first and few 8 Tracks I bought was

Around the World with 3 Dog Night. You might like this drum solo from it.

This would be mine answer too, but my dad is/was a big vinyl guy, so he gave me a huge stack of 45s. A lot of Beatles, rolling stones, moody blues, etc. And I absolutely wore out a 45 of the dukes of hazard theme.

I see what you did there leaving off the artist. We all know that is Robbie Van Winkle aka Vanilla Ice.

I mean you have Paula Abdul, MC Hammer and Bobby Brown too with Beastie Boys, Bon Jovi, GnR, MJ and LL Cool J so really all over the map.

Impressively inclusive.

Like others on this thread, I didn't have to buy any music for a long time because I had an older sibling that had a job and money and wheels and bought all the music.

The first album he bought was the debut album from Boston. Safeway in our town had albums and tapes by the magazine section. He bought it there because he thought the cover art was cool. Good call.

He later bought Van Halen's debut album because he thought "these guys look pretty awesome". He was correct.

Hundreds of album purchases followed.

When he moved away it left me with a bunch of Maxell cassettes i had from copying his albums. I think the first LP I bought on my own was Quiet Riot's debut.

The first album I remember owning was a Kermit The Frog album my mom got me. I loved it. Also, a 45 of the Davey Crockett song.

I had several of those K-Tel albums. They would have like 20 heavily edited (for time) songs on them.
