Saw this on TV at a restaurant tonight. I don't remember seeing this when I was a kid, and I think my childhood is better for it.

I mean holy crap, how did anyone look at this and say, "yeah, let's put our name on it and put it out for mass consumption!" This is a level of terrible far beyond what should be allowed.

I think the budget for each episode must have been about tree-fiddy.

The late 80s were a magical/crazy time where networks and studios were churning out TONS of cheap cartoons to help squeeze in more toy commercials. Then you had the NES becoming a smash hit and there was a race to make a Mario cartoon. The American studio and audience was fresh off of Mario 2 coming out so you basically have this fever dream of a cartoon based on a fever dream of a video game that Japan felt was best suited for America because they thought the REAL Mario 2 was too hard for us.

Also, how dare you imply that Captain Lou Albano would be associated with an inferior product.

I'm interested in the restaurant you were at TBH if they are showing this.

Loved this, Zelda, and Captain N. They have a Live channel on Amazon that rotates these shows for those interested.

I've seen it at Fazoli's and Dairy Queen.

I loved The Super Mario show when I was a kid. My brother loved it when he was a kid. Both of my kids found the show on their own (Netflix or some other streaming service) and they both loved it. Based off of that, I contend it was a great show.

The Mario/Zelda show was awesome. As were mario 3 and Super Mario World cartoons that came on on Saturday mornings after Captain N.

I still tell my kids

If you think 80's kids shows were weird the 70's says hold my beer. I am 100% certain everyone involved was on drugs. Hard drugs.
