Many of us followed this show for 15 years in the early 2000s

great documentary revealing behind the scenes and a follow up with many of the contestants.

hint:

it's not pretty!

Never watched the show when it aired but the doc is pretty interesting. Recommend.

Same here on both accounts. The one episode where they had to run a mile right out of the gate was pure insanity.

Actually, the whole series was that, apparently.

I'll have to watch it, but I imagine hardly any of the contestants kept the weight off (and probably struggled mentally). I remember watching the show, and shaking my head that yeah, everyone was going to lose weight getting personal trainers and having private chefs, but when those go away you're doomed because you built habits that aren't sustainable for people who have regular lives (AKA, not movie stars, sports stars, or now influencers ). As someone who has been "fat", I felt it was a cruel joke to give people hope like that and not make it so that it was long term.

You have to find good habits/routines that you can fit into the lifestyle you're forced to live, at least that's what I finally figured out in my late 20s by just counting calories, doing your best to limit portions and building a habit to do at least 40 minutes of good cardio M-F. (Lost over 70 pounds over 7 months and have kept most of it off).

The guy - Danny Cahill I believe was his name - that lost like 300lbs or something like that and then gained it all back was really sad.

still wild that the one person to have a heart attack on that show was....Bob, the "fit" trainer.

Was disappointed Jillian didn't participate in the doc. Also sad to hear she never called Bob while he was recovering from his heart attack.

you pretty much summed up the documentary right there!!

I watched that show for a number of years. I started to sour when I heard stories of a majority of them gaining the weight back. Then I just felt like a bad voyeur in someone else's tragedy.
But the final straw was when that woman showed up at the finale looking anorexic and won because she had the largest percent weight loss. It was painfully clear that what they were doing was damaging them psychologically and the show cared more about drama than their contestants. I completely checked out after that.

Yeah that story about Rachel was what I was talking about. And only confirms what I said about NBC.

the most interesting aspect is all the contestants in this documentary have put back on the weight...

except the one who was the WORST contestant and kicked off.

she later admitted she is on a GLP-1

shocker!

I was surprised to see an old JD Roth and he's one of the bad guys. Haven't seen him on TV since I watched Fun House as a kid.

She's posting all the email and text receipts on her IG. She is not holding back that's for sure, and rightfully so.

Haven't watched it yet so not sure if they try to drag her down more than the Bob thing but she has made clear her stance.

The documentary didn't paint a very rosy picture of either of the trainers, but Bob just shrugged it off.
