I remember seeing Snow White in the theater in the early 80s. The scene where the dwarves drove the queen to the cliff in the storm scared the shizz out of me.

Many moons ago, the Bush library had a classic film series in their theater. We went and saw Giant, Hud, African Queen, and some others. The experience watching these on a big screen was so incredible compared to on TV.

I saw On the Waterfront and Gilda there. They had a film noir series that summer. It was really cool.

Great thread! I've seen shorts like the Edison films and "A Trip to the Moon", but the oldest feature film would probably be "Nosferatu" from 1922 at Drafthouse.

House of Wax (1953).

They were showing an old 3D movie and my parents took us, the movie was terrible but the 3D was cool.

I saw that one some time about 1982 or so.

Me too,in either Niagara Falls or Buffalo

Rocky Horror Picture Show back in the day in San Antonio. Probably 20 yrs after its release.

I wonder if it's still played anywhere?

What do we consider a theater? I watched Metropolis (1927) in college, but it was more of an auditorium.

I'd count it. I saw many movies at Rudder Auditorium, although nothing that would qualify for this discussion.

We went in like 2004-2005 era before we moved away from BCS. That was so fun.

I think they showed Last Picture Show that series too? I would have loved to see On the Waterfront. Or Streetcar even.

Gaslight-Baker Theater in Lockhart is doing the musical later this season. Obviously not the film but still!

Pardon the derail, but the comments about movies at The Grove and Bush Library got me thinking - Didn't they used to show movies at Rudder Tower back in the day (mid-80's)? Or am I misremembering?
Would swear I went to one. And it wasn't in an auditorium/theater, but in like a big conference room with regular chairs and a projection screen. Kind of like a steroids version of watching a film in elementary school.

Saw a lot of movies there. Alien, Lethal Weapon, The Untouchables, and Return of the Jedi are the ones I remember most, although there were more.

The Jefferson Theater in Beaumont was the site of the original premier for It's A Wonderful Life. But it also has a full pipe organ that they play live for silent movies, which if very impressive. So my oldest two movies at a movie theater are "Safety Last!" (1923) about a man free climbing a building and The Phantom of the Opera (1925).

The earliest one I can remember in a theater was Raiders of the Lost Ark. Dad told me to close my eyes for the face melting. Sorry for the spoiler

I was in MSC Film Society in the early to mid 00's, and we used to show movies in Rudder Theatre every couple of weeks.

For me it's probably What's Up Doc in 1972. The babysitter took us because she wanted to see it.

I remember seeing The Sound of Music and The Jungle Book as a tiny tot in the late 60's at the Queen in downtown Bryan. My grandmother took us.

They also used to have kiddie movies on Saturday morning at The Palace. Lots of Don Knotts movies like The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, etc.
