New documentary from Colin Hanks.

John Candy is one my all-time favorites.

Looks like they got an incredible group from his Second City and movie days as well as his wife and kids (who co-produced alongside Ryan Reynolds).

Synopsis says there will be "never-before-seen home videos, intimate access to his family, and candid recollections from collaborators to paint a bigger picture of one of the brightest stars of the '70s, '80s and '90s,"

Premiers today at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Get those tissues ready.

Oh man, can't wait. PLT&A is my favorite all-time movie, so I love the title they chose for this.

One of the few celebrity deaths that actually hurt when I heard. Amazing he was only 43 when he died with all he accomplished. And so sad to think of all he could have done in the last 30 years.

Candy was one of a kind. In my youth I was a huge SCTV fan so watched it and SNL equally. So much talent from that SCTV cast.

Yep ... I still refer to a lot of SCTV characters, skits and lines, though no one knows what I'm talking about. Loved Candy in "The Fishin' Musician."

Uncle Buck is still one of my favorites. Candy was an amazing personality. It's still sad to know he passed so young.

Right there with ya. Loved him in everything, including Johnny LaRue on SCTV. I'll be watching this.

Dang this choked me up…esp when he delivered the "I like me" line at the end. Something about the delivery seemed so sincere. Can't believe it's been over 30 yrs.

This right here. Even as a kid I picked up on a sincerity in his acting that most other actors didn't have.

Brilliant...such a throwaway line that my BIL and I use regularly. I'll more than likely say it again this weekend at a tailgate without thinking about it.

It was the "I like… I like me."

The little hitch in the middle.

I've always wondered if that was Candy improvising or if John Hughes wrote it that way. Both were geniuses.

Same...it kind of seems like some real vulnerability on display there. Maybe some self esteem issues he's grappled with. Maybe just masterful acting. Either way, it hits me in the gut. Such a lovable guy and even in rewatching "Home Alone" with my little one, it seems like his good lovable nature is just oozing out.

One of the best parts of the Steve Martin documentary is when he talks about John Candy. Evidently, Candy had a profound effect on a lot of the people he worked with. He definitely did on Steve.

Uncle Buck is one of those movies I just can't pass up when I see that it's on.

Between this and the bit from Macaulay Culkin in the trailer when he said "I remember John caring....when not a lot of people did" really got to me too.

John Candy is someone that was always around during my childhood. There's no one like him that comes to mind before or since him, he was unique. There were parts of Chris Farley that were similar to him but Farley also had too much of the dark side in him. If you have a few minutes do yourself a favor and listen to Conan O'Brien talk about when he gave John Candy a tour of Harvard while he was a student.

Planes Trains and Automobiles is one of my favorite movies. I posted a long video here a while back about all the missing and deleted scenes, but two things stand out. Martin's wife actually thought Del was a woman that Martin was cheating with, and was going to leave him. The selfless act of bringing Del home with him saved his marriage and why she seemed so emotional in that final scene.
But if you want to (maybe) shed a tear, this is the scene I would want to see. And Candy spilling these lines would have melted almost everyone. Heck, just that smile on Candy's face at the end of both gratitude and happiness for Neil are enough as it is.

Always liked John Candy. While not his best role, my favorite movie was Summer Rental. He had a great career, but I always felt like he was waiting for better material to come along and elevate him where he deserved to be.

I remember that interview with Martin about the speech that was cut. Would have loved to have seen it make it into the film.

PTA ending. Candy could act. Like I said, that final smile kills me every time. To be so selfless after what he's lost is just so well shown,

I really don't like the JFK film, but there are a couple of performances that I'll watch: John Candy and Donald Sutherland. Candy's role was a departure from most of his other stuff and it was really well done imho.

Great Outdoors - eating the steak and "big bear chase me"
Stripes - mud wrestling the ladies haha
National lampoons vacation - the security guard
Little shop of horrors - radio guy

So many great roles and moments both big and small. I just realized I could keep going for an hour. He's one of the best at his craft for making his roles personable and believable… even as a former bobsledder.

Wife and I love watching his movies and will be glued to this documentary
