And yet... neither I, nor my siblings, were ever allowed to simply consume any form of media for any length of time we wanted. I didn't grow up watching the same movie on repeat, in the living room, annoying my parents to death.

Lol..

As a 13 year old I spent a lot of time in front of the tv watching beavis and butthead along with music videos.
Sounds like your parents were lame!

I honestly think parents that allow zero screen time are pretty sus. What are you accomplishing exactly.. or what do you think you're preventing from happening to them?

This question not directed at you of course, since you have no kids.

Don't let any media producer dictate what your kids watch, monitor what your own kids watch. I sure do.

This. Don't be an absentee parent. If a show like this is showing up in queue after another movie/show, that kind of sucks as a parent, but you still shouldn't be just letting your young kids sit in front of the TV and watch whatever comes on.

It really isn't that hard. I didn't have an iPad growing up, if I have kids, they won't have an iPad. If they have to have any device for school purposes, that device would remain in the family room.

I keep going back to this...

If the goal is to raise your kids like you were raised, then I should be an absentee parent and I'd have latchkey kids who pretty much do what they want from after school until about 6, which is about when I would first see my parents for the day. Mom taught piano before school and after school, and dad left before I woke up and got home close to 6. I had zero supervision once I was in elementary school (brother was 3 years older).. we had a tv and nintendo at home, a bike, a pool, a computer in the house.

I turned out fine.. engineering degree from aTm, been with same woman for over 20 years, two very well grounded boys who excel at academics and sports, we're financially stable living happily in our little bubble.

Like I could give a rat's ass if my kid stares at an ipad or game console on tv when he wants to. Luckily, we've guided them to a point where they can make good (ok maybe decent) decisions for themselves, and involved them in a variety of things in life to where sitting on an ipad for 4 hours would even be boring for them, and they'd want to go run around outside. If you have to force that out of your kids life, what will happen when they have the freedom?

As of late, I've caught the kids watching youtube exercise videos on the backyard tv while following along. Shame on them for doing pushups!

Or everyone's algorithm is different?

I find it weird and cringey how everyone thinks they have an algorithm now.

You don't. It's your feed or personalization or recommendations.

Dozens of people will hate this post because they think it is correct or cool - maybe both - to imagine they have an algorithm.

Well, technically everyone does have an algorithm, it's just that literally everyone shares the same single algorithm that curates their individual feed based on several factors, including viewing habits.

I canceled Netflix back when they wouldn't back down on that creepy dance kid series called Cuties that was being really weird about underage girls and never re-subbed. They're a ****ty company. I do kinda regret that because I know I've missed some cool series/shows, but I don't like forking over my hard-earned money to companies with no moral compass.

Otherwise known as a feed or personalization or recommendations.

Thanks for agreeing with me.

I just checked the Netflix profile that my two girls (10 and 8) use. The show is on there.

Being available to watch is a different thing than being promoted as the tweet claimed.

So a show from a couple years ago, that was canceled after one season is what we are talking about? On a service who's whole business model is throw 10,000 things at the wall and see if we can get one K Pop Demon Hunters?

Hell, there might not be more than a single person AT Netflix that knows this show exists.

You must not buy or consume anything then. How are you online or using a phone or computer to type that post

It's actually not that hard to avoid companies that double down on sexualizing kids. I'm not the type to boycott companies for any little political issue, but Netflix deserves exactly what they're getting.

What too many people on this thread are missing is not how hard it may be to find media like this on Netflix, YouTube, or Disney+. That's not how they are pushing this filth to kids.

What they do is allow you to pick the show that you've already screened for your kids and have approved. Then, after it's over, they queue up a "similar" type of content and immediately start playing it. It's THIS content that is the despicable drivel they are trying to push on kids. The idea is the parent has already sat their kid down, chosen the program, and walked away. Parent gets busy, doesn't realize the next show is up, and kid gets to consume the propaganda.

It really isn't that complicated. This is extremely simplistic program fenagling that these streaming services have done for years, to push their other content on consumers.

I canceled Netflix before I even knew this show existed because I predicted something like this would happen.

Revel in my prescience, m'fers. And thanks, Obama.

Yes. Some people are lazy parents. The world is filled with horrible kids, and that's a direct effect of poor parenting. Probability says there are plenty of ****ty parents who post on TexAgs.

It's not complicated, not sitting your kid in front of a TV for hours to babysit all the time, or not handing them an iPad. I guess I was just raised differently from you. It is not incumbent on the parent to entertain the kids 100% of the time and they don't need to be staring at screens the entire time. There are still a countless number of things kids can do with free time.

If I had a dollar for every lazy parent like you who always says exactly what you posted... yet I know many couples with kids who don't do this. I'm not talking about sailing solo around the world. I'm talking about doing the bare minimum as a parent. Parenting isn't easy, get over it.

What a bad post. This is a shameful response.
