The best Colonial era show / movie was Turn. This looks just as good and possibly better. All the way in.

Feel like the title could be better. Like The Virginian, The Commander, The Colonial, the American Cincinnatus, Town Destroyer

Looks cool and a period of history we didn't see much of anymore. There are reasons for that though: either you ignore slavery(which this looks like it does) and anger half the country, or you depict slavery and anger the other half. Kind of a lose-lose period to depict politically right now

They went with that title because it is based on the book of the same title.

Definitely not a lose/lose. Angel Studios knows the crowd they're not making movies for. Depict one of our most heroic founding fathers in a positive light, in a well-shot and exciting movie, and it's going to do really well. I just hope it's as good as the trailer looks.

Still a bad title. Maybe because I just rewatched Young Frankenstein.

Young Washington accidentally started the French and Indian War, which led to the British taxing the **** out of the colonies, which led to the American Revolution.

Was thinking the same things, hope it's good because there is a LOT of history that could still be depicted from this era that hasn't been yet.

The American Revolution has nothing to do with slavery

I didn't say it did, but that's irrelevant because this movie is set in French Indian War.
However, any depiction of George Washington, among other founding fathers, has to decide how it will handle him owning slaves.

I would be surprised if there isn't some brief depiction of the setting of his childhood in Virginia, which would have to show plantation agriculture. But, it won't be a movie about that because the focus will be on his early military career. Hollywood has made about 5,675,323 movies or shows about slavery being bad. Yes, we get that, I don't think anyone admires Washington because he was born into a family that owned slaves. What we haven't had is a movie about what a badass Washington was, and that's why it's going to be ignored or slandered by critics while killing it at the box office.

why on Earth would you think that depicting slavery in a historical context would anger half the country?

Good god y'all are just looking for a virtue signal around every corner.

Allow me to blow your mind. I am an unabashedly conservative right winger. My family in America has no ties to slavery. Mom's side was early Irish immigrants in Ohio and Penn. Dad's side was German immigrants via Galveston in the 1870's. American's past is incredibly diverse and truthfully only a small percentage owned slaves.

It's going to be okay I assure you. Things change. That's why it's called "history".

The full title of the book is Young Washington: How Wilderness and War Forged America's Founding Father.

IMO, "War Forged" would be a much better title for the book and movie

Applying 20th and 21th century sensibilities to social norms from 200+ years back is what dumb people do.

The last slave holders in the US were Native American tribes in the 1890's.

Agree to disagree. I'd see it either way, but I haven't preferred any of the titles you've suggested over Young Washington.

One of my favorite portrayals of Washington in tv/film.

I have thought for years that a big studio movie of George Washington through the Revolution would make bank

Compared to the Civil War, the founding of our country is relatively untapped by film and television.

There's "The Patriot," "TURN," and "Sons of Liberty" (which was highly inaccurate) and the '70s musical "1776, but I can't really think of any others off the top of my head.

Oh year, the show "Outlander" had a Revolutionary War storyline for a season.
