Fourteen years after a random person tweeted the idea to the mayor's office, Detroit is finally home to a glorious statue of Robocop.

He'll be an even better ambassador when he's been tagged and pooped on. Maybe some homeless will pitch some tents on him too.

Wasn't Robcop filmed in Dallas?

Yes. But it was set in Detroit.

They had to use Dallas because Detroit was too crime-ridden. Now they would have to find a substitute for Dallas.

There were some scenes shot in downtown Houston in either Robocop or Robocop 2. In the theater district.

That was Robocop 2.

The problem with filming movies in cities with known landmarks is it can take one out of the movie. Case in point, in Robocop, set in Detroit, there was a scene on a road where Reunion Tower is clearly visible in the background. Maybe they thought that gave the environment a futuristic look, but I'm just sitting there thinking this is Dallas, not Detroit.

This would be a good topic. Most egregious one off top of my head is the first X-Files movie with its opening scene in Dallas, TX.......and there are mountains behind Mulder and Scully.

I will add the opening of Uncommon Valor, a bunch of military types conducting drills with mountains in the background and the words, North of Galveston, Texas on screen.

But they didn't say how far north of Galveston.

That was designed by a famous architect. Surprised they would do that.

Another Dallas callout is Logan's Run. End of movie was filmed at Reunion Tower/fountains.

At the end of "The Shallows" when Blake Lively is almost eaten by a shark 75 times, she reunites with her sister and father to go surfing in Galveston.

This is the image they used for the beach in Galveston.

I've seen it look like that. There have been a lot of clear water days lately.
