Apologies if I already posted, but has anyone seen or can comment on the movie David? Interested in taking my 6, 8 and 10-year-old to see it and based off of the brief online search it seems like it may be generally biblically accurate and mostly family oriented. Anyone seen it that has some thoughts?

Saw it with a friend and our two 7 year olds. It was excellent and biblically aligned. Songs were amazing. Highly recommend for those with or without kids.

Really enjoyed it. Beautiful animation. Great music. David's story is a powerful one.

We saw it the other day and it was fantastic. As good, or better, than a Disney musical but with a deeper story. Very well written.

Like The Prince of Egypt with a touch of Moana.

We had considered it due to some grandparents request to go, but had since seen enough reviews from a religious and Scriptural content perspective that it's not worth it for us. Probably similar to why we don't watch The Chosen. Nothing major for sure however.

Took our kids on Monday night. I concur 100%

Is it appropriate for a 3 year old and 4 year old? Took them to see zootopia 2 last month and they loved the theater.

I'm thinking 1st grade and above.

Nothing too graphic or violent. But very loud and intense at times.

Prince of Egypt is good, great music too. Moana is fun. Glad this one turned out well.

They made the Amalekites super dark and scary to the point my 5 year old was scared quite often. They're also frequently recurring throughout the movie, so it's not just a cover the eyes and be done with it scene. My kids are pretty sheltered from scary content, but under 6 or 7, I'd probably steer clear.

Oddly, on the other end, they softened David up so much that he would have been at no risk of not being able to build the temple or anyone singing about his slaying anyone, much less more than Saul. I'll stress that they took a whole lot of license on this point.

His interactions with Saul were all pretty right on, and his message of faith and fear of God alone were the strongest part of the movie and very solid. The music was good but not super memorable.

Overall, I love the life of David and really didn't care for the movie. My 8 year old who knows his Bible was even calling out the differences. It's not a bad movie but meh.

Here is a 10 min video review I had seen that had some things to consider. I am not familiar with this reviewer and background.

We're in our seats right now. Our youngest is really excited to see this. Part of the reason might be we went to a musical play called The Story of David in Branson and it was INCREDIBLE! Think that has him a little hooked on this story.

My family really enjoyed it as did I. Was really pleased with how everything was depicted and portrayed. Obviously they are going to tone down the violence with what actually happened and how they show it on screen but I was impressed with what they did show.

I also didn't expect them to go into the full story of David because oh boy does it get R-rated after he becomes king.

Also if you take your kids expecting it to be "funny" or "goofy" it's not that type of story and I'm glad they didn't try very hard with comedy. Think I only chuckled once because they do try a joke here and there but they mostly take it very serious.

Also the music is pretty dang good! The songs all had my attention and got the intended message across quite well.

We just left David in Branson tonight and you're right, it was amazing. Broadway level production values (perhaps higher) and their voices were incredible too.

Still not sure how they did the giants, they looked so realistic.

ETA I haven't seen the movie yet but Phil Wickham does the voice of adult David and he's my favorite Christian artist. "What an Awesome God" is incredible.

I don't think this guy is properly accounting for the fact that they are trying to make a kid/family friendly movie/musical about one of the most violent figures in the Bible. I thought the movie does a good job at giving kids a basic understanding of David's life and even allows parents to follow up on the actual scriptures to see where the movie took some dramatic liberties. If you are looking for a biographical documentary then this not the movie for you. If you are looking for an entertaining biopic, which takes some dramatic liberties, that the family will enjoy and make them more interested in the biblical story of David, then this movie hits the mark.

I have a feeling the pastor in the video is the type that doesn't allow for trick or treating from his kids because instead of being able to explain to them the origin of the holiday and how it has transformed into something more fun, imaginative, light-hearted and even Christianized to All Saints Eve, he can only view Halloween through the lens of being a promotion for pagans.

We all have our different perspectives and viewpoints. I happen to agree with his take on some bigger misses to stay true to Scripture versus veering away. If you disagree with it, that's fine but think it's worth the secondary viewpoint for people to make an informed decision.

Not sure what Halloween has to do with it but you're probably right and is also why we don't do the Halloween thing ourselves. If you wanna play with the demonic roots of that holiday and dress it up you certainly have the right to do so.

Just to potentially give a different perspective on this…there are A TON of stories in the Bible that if they were biblically accurate and put to a movie would be rated R…

When we first spoke of the gospel to our kids, we didn't give every gory detail of how Jesus was tortured and show them screenshots from The Passion of the Christ…

While I won't say David was a perfect movie, I don't think it should be faulted for altering the story to make it more kid friendly so youth can be introduced to biblical stories like these….

I still remember these old VHS tapes that depicted classic Bible stories that I watched as a kid that were cartoons and they were pretty short in length….it got me curious to learn more and I did.

It also sounded like this pastor had an axe to grind when he started the review with his tone about Angel production being Mormon owned…..so? Most of Hollywood is Jewish so what's his point?

We don't either. Kind of seems pointless and contradictory to teach our kids to not have fear and also celebrate a holiday with a theme of fear. Plus, going door to door getting candy that we don't let them eat and we don't need to eat doesn't make alot of sense.

Kind of where I'm at, too.

I appreciate the critic's adherence to the Biblical truth, but understand how things can be adapted for broader adoption/interest.
