One of my buddies was in the open drill team scene. He said the Col did order the code red.

Jessup tells Kendrick "If Santiago doesn't make 4-6, 4-6 on his next report, I'm going to blame you." Markinson was there to hear those orders. And nowhere in there does Jessup use the phrase "Code Red" nor does he tell Kendrick to do anything against Marine rules. Markinson knew this. That's why he didn't want to testify. Markinson did not off himself because he was afraid to face Jessup. He did that, because if he was put on the stand, he knew he would have to testify that Jessup did NOT call for anything "Code Red". It's a subtle point that gets missed like Andy Dufrene's hammer being hidden in the biblical book of Exodus. So, there's that. But, that also makes Jessup's admission so much more powerful, because he admitted to something he was thinking even though he knows he never actually said those words.

Did you actually watch the movie?
Markinson literally says "I wasn't strong enough to stop it."
It being the Code Red. He went to the Academy and Vietnam with Jessup and was horrified at himself for what he felt like was a betrayal of his old friend. That's why he killed himself. Not because of whatever you've concocted.

I'm honestly impressed how many times you managed to misspell Jessep and Markinson's names in your post.

A Few Good Men? More like, a few good moments then it was boring. Santiago was an OK man, but he needed to be put out of his misery.

A Few Good Men is what happens when leadership loses to theater majors with subpoenas.

It was a Meathead movie. Rob Reiner was an extreme lib & Clinton fan. Clinton was drawing down the military like it was the national pass time & was on record as having stated that he loathed the military.

Ironic that his wife turned into such a war hawk.

That movie was made and released when George H. W. Bush was POTUS.
Sweet fictional rant though.

I'm not sure he's horrified of betraying Jessup. In the beginning of the movie we see Jessup essentially bullying him and reminding him who has the bigger dick in the room. Jessup is obviously a jackass to him, and likely has been for years. I have a hard time thinking that a career marine is horrified at turning in Jessup. What he's horrified of is that he never stood up previously to Jessup even though he knew from their close professional career paths that Jessup was the kind of guy to operate outside established protocol.

Now Santiago is dead, and in his suicide letter he states that he blames himself for the death. I don't see any room for another explanation here based on what we see in the movie. I don't even know that we can consider Markinson and Jessup as friends.

I just want to chime in if you have the time, check out any videos you can of Kevin Pollak telling stories about being on set for this movie. There are a view on YT from his appearances on Rich Eisen's show that are gold.

The one where he's telling the Jack N story about "ironic" is absolutely hysterical.

Those stories are great.

The new Lexus with Tom Cruise involved is also good.

Maybe Rob Reiner was really invested in Arkansas gubernatorial politics at the time

I thought that was why we got former Fish Drill Team members at the beginning and not actual USMC drill team members because the marines didn't like how the movie portrayed them.

It's because the former FDT guys were better.
