After 4 weeks, Melania has finally cracked $16 million pulling in $212,490 this weekend. The current total of $16,131,76 means it just passed 1989's Prancer which made $16,115,398 ($42,270,688 adjusted for inflation).
This weekend's take represents a 97% decrease from the opening weekend total of $7,161,605.

Is it time to call this a flop?

You've been dying to bag on this movie since Day 1 so go ahead.

I wanted to give it a fair chance. I'll admit I was wrong and it did way better than I thought it would opening weekend. I just thought the whole concept was silly to begin with.

Now had this been an 8 part TV show? I would have watched at least a few episodes of it. That probably would have done a lot better and honestly been more interesting. It would have given the viewer a chance to actually get to know Melania because she really is a bit of an unknown. I bet they have enough footage to still do something like that too.

I think it was declared a flop when they announced "we're filming a movie about melania trump in which she isn't taking her clothes off."

You're being too nice. I'm a righty and I would never have any desire to watch any movie or mini series about her. I don't think anyone under 65 would. Thanks for extending the olive branch tho…

She's a bit of an unknown because the media did everything it could to ignore her during Trump's first term. She had a campaign against bullying and they refused to give it any press at all.

No, I saw it. They gave it press, and plenty of it. Just for reasons you won't acknowledge... to call out the irony/hypocrisy of the wife of one of the most famous bullies on the planet advocating against bullying. It was utterly tone deaf at best, insane gaslighting at worst, and shouldn't have been taken seriously coming from her regardless.

Go ahead and link one of the interviews the major media gave her on the topic. Or show the usual People magazine cover a First Lady gets to talk about their campaign.

You can c/lol all you want, but it doesn't make the facts change.
TCTTS

No surprise, but you're completely missing the point, which is that no one gave her those things BECAUSE of the hypocrisy. And rightfully so. Why on earth would People magazine put her on the cover for being anti-bullying when her husband is notoriously the very definition of a bully? As one of most famous people on the planet, that's his most famous trait. And major media is just supposed to ignore that fact? I know next comes all the whataboutisms, re: all the other hypocritical things major media ignores, but even as double standard it's one that still doesn't support your nonsensical argument.

Typical Hollywood elitism. I'd like to let the record reflect that Trump being known first and foremost as a "bully" is poppycock. He's a woman abuser and pedo protector first. Then a failed business man and con artist. Then maybe a bully. Stop spreading misinformation.

Here's an entire 20/20 episode from 2018 on Melania. Once they start asking about Be Best, she quickly makes it about her and how she's "the most bullied person on the internet". It's all just so disingenuous; as if the Obama family, Jill Biden, Chelsea Clinton, et al haven't been the butt of jokes for years.

No surprise, but you are defending mainstream media being biased. Thanks for illustrating my point.

Objective media would have interviewed her and said "ok, bullying is bad, but how do you address that with your husband?"

But nope. The hypocrisy of the left is a symptom of the disorder. They punished a woman because they didn't like her husband. The enlightened and tolerant left didn't champion a woman in Washington.

Weird.

Unless you understand liberals.

Quote:

In the clip, Trump is seen wondering aloud if Melania's intended dress can top the one she wore at his first inauguration before turning his attention to the college football national championship.

"We are competing with the championship game?" Trump asks the person helping them plan the day's events. "How did that happen?"

"I'm unsure, sir," the man replies.

"Well, we've always had this day, cause this day's been here for hundreds of years," Trump replies. "So, they put a game…"

The man says that the administration is "working extremely closely with the networks," presumably to ensure coverage of the inauguration.

"I know, but why did they have to put the national championship at the same time?" asks Trump.

"Unclear," replies the man.

"They probably did it on purpose," adds Trump dejectedly, before finally moving on.

Trump was also upset about the timing of the National Championship game.

I heard about it. And I knew that, like so much of the first term, "Be Best" was a naked attempt to one-up an Obama.

Melania's box office numbers have surpassed Becoming Led Zeppelin (2025's Highest Grossing Documentary).

Personally when it comes to documentaries I don't measure success by box office numbers as Hoop Dreams, one of my favorite documentaries, made only $11.8M in 1994 ($25.8M in 2026).

I still haven't watched Melania but I will eventually once it hits streaming.

According to google, the budget for hoop dreams was $750,000

Which is wild to think about when you learn they filmed over 250 hours of footage from 1987 to 1992.

Stating facts directly related to the conversation presently occurring in thread = "liberal trolling BS."

Got it.

Good Lord.

Also, just FYI, political discussions about inherently political movies/shows - especially documentaries/docu-series - has always been allowed on this board by staff, something I've never once griped about. It's when politics are brought into otherwise innocuous, non-political entertainment threads that I've said "take that crap to F16."

I know nuance/context is hard, but I have faith that you can grasp both in this instance.

The irony is impressive.
