Amazing technology, and cool to see the original cast back together. Hard to believe it's been 33 years since the original.

They also put out a fake commercial for Jurassic Park from "1993", although the link doesn't go anywhere.

Heard a rumor that they spent $7 million to make it, and that they would end up spending a little more than that to broadcast it.

I'll never understand the strategy of releasing this stuff before hand.
The whole point is that you've got a captive audience of 100M+ that can be like "I want that" in the moment.
When 30+% of them have already seen it on YouTube, and are largely unmoved by YouTube, you've killed your marketing power. For what- to show off how good you think you are at marketing?

Because they aren't a captive audience. MIllions of people are at parties and bars and completely distracted by their immediate surroundings or by their phones or whatever.
Put it online and people watch it on their devices with total attention, and then you have people at the party or at home with family say, "Hey! Everyone watch this!"

Politely disagree. That was so good that I will likely forward the link to my wife, my brothers, and both my sons, several friends as well.
I mean, I see your point if it was your run on the mill super bowl commercial but that was so good that the early release will have people that have seen it literally yelling at people during a super bowl party to stop and watch it. That's a Gen X masterpiece.

Easily my favorite movie of all time, even today. I saw it on opening day and then about 4 other times while it was in theaters. Preordered it on VHS from Blockbuster (I was 8 so I had to do chores forever to afford it), bought the original soundtrack on cassette tape and would listen to it every night because I thought if I did I would have a dream of visiting the (fully functional) park.
What a great commercial.
And Laura Dern is still a smokeshow. I had such a huge crush on her when it came out.

My brother won midnight show tickets off a radio station to see JP the night it opened back in a time when midnight showings didn't really happen.
A phenomenal experience with almost no knowledge of anything that was in the film. I was 19 and remember being scared of the T-Rex, a rare experience for me at the movies. Back when trailers didn't spoil the movie.

Great idea. I'm not interested in watching the game, so I looked up the commercials and this is the only one that has been noteworthy.
