Watched this on Netflix last night, really fantastic especially for those of us are old enough to remember this. I was 13 and remember well watching these hockey matches. Has old interviews, new interviews a lot of great footage for the time in that 70s and 80s. Highly recommend. Was a neat time. Our country came together and what was also a pretty bad time then politically.

I thought it was great. A lot of fun watching them see old films and photos of themselves. 45 years later and they still tear up talking about their families. Very well done documentary.

I loved watching the players watch the video and reminisce. Craig's deep love of his mom and dad was really cool.

Agree on Craig.... his sections were my favorite parts in the documentary. And the other goalie's story about meeting his wife in the Olympics was pretty cool also.

It's fantastic.
It took me a while to watch it the first time because i kept rewinding it to watch the player's reactions to certain segments again.

Those guys reacting so emotionally to the videos of their families is heartwarming.

Well, you should've kept watching it because it's really good and gets better as it goes. Give it another try. It was really neat, watching the older versions of themselves watch video of the younger versions of themselves and their families and then detailing the plays. Your loss if you don't watch it.

I actually teared up a little bit of it at the end. I can remember watching it and it was just neat to see our country come together in another time where politics sucked as well.

That was really neat and I also rewound it a few times for the actual plays. It was very sweet seeing a few of them tear up when they saw their parents in the videos.

You are spot on! How proud were you to say "USA...USA...USA"? American Pride was never matched until 9-11, for different reasons.

Great documentary. Like many have said, I teared up several times throughout and I RARELY do that at shows or movies.

It's easy to overlook the fact that these were just young college kids playing against the Big Red Machine -- the world's greatest hockey team, made up entirely of professionals. Not NHL professionals, but individuals who were paid by the Soviet government to train and play hockey and represent the USSR.

In fact, the Soviets went on to win the next two Olympic gold medals.

It's still a stunner today.

Highly recommend watching this if you haven't done so yet.

They actually also won in 1992 as something called the Unified Team, as the USSR collapsed. Basically, between 1956 and 1992, there were 10 Winter Olympics. Amazingly, the US won 2 gold medals in hockey when we hosted the Winter Olympics in both 1960 and 1980, while the Soviets won the other 8. They went 62-6-2 in those 10 Olympiads. They outscored their opponents 492-129 over those 70 games.

It was the perfect storm of home ice, the Russians not taking us seriously because they destroyed us the week prior, and complete overreaction by their coach to bench the best goalie in the world.

Oh yeah, and an incredible coach who unified the team with their shared hatred of him and pushing them all to their absolute limits. Perfect case of truth is better than fiction.

I thought it was great as well. Had never heard the story of Herb getting so emotional when making that final roster cut due to Herb being the final cut back in 1960.

I didn't know that either.

Gotta love Herb's dad watching Team USA win the gold then telling him "looks like they cut the right guy". Geez, dad.

Is this Netflix movie age appropriate for 10 and 7 year olds? In terms of bad language.

I'm sure there is some bad language but not a lot. The worst is when they tell the story of what Herb Brooks told them before they went out to play Finland. "If you lose this game you will take it to your ****ing graves". They made a big deal to state he never ever had used the f word before with them.

Very well done. I was 10 years old, at that time the broadcast was tape delayed until 10:30 PM following your local news, NBA Finals were too. I recall our local broadcast stating prior to showing the game a live look from Lake Placid, a gentleman was holding a homemade sign "Go for GOLD!!!" My mom screamed that means we won, we beat the Russians!! My dad scolded her not to be ridiculous. Yeah, my dad would have been the one telling me they cut the right kid

Also, agree with Al Michaels, first time ever the USA USA USA chant began. Side note, did anyone know Al Michaels has never eaten a vegetable??

And for those interested in seeing a REAL beatdown, look up what the Philadelphia Flyers did to Russia in 1976
