The Overlook is prime ski country. A few snowplows running? Charge the guests a service fee.

I'm reading Dr. Sleep and figured I'd give Kubrick a view . This is the scariest movie I've ever seen. I first watched it when I was 10 and it stuck with me. I read most of the book as I recall, but the movie was decidedly different. All the moon landing stuff aside (which I believe), it's a fantastic movie and the scariest thing I've ever seen

Apologies for the cryptic post. I'm not sure what happened with the title. Yes, this is a shining related post.

The Shining is a great movie on its own but so different from the book as to almost be unrecognizable. SK reportedly hated the adaptation.

He then produced a tv version of it which is absolutely terrible.

It's actually pretty good if you have read the book, plus Rebecca DeMornay is a huge upgrade to Shelly Duvall.

I think Shelly Duvall was perfect for the role.

Kubrick made a classic film.

He also completely butchered the book, theme and all.

Duvall was fine for Kubrick's film, but she is not even in the same stratosphere as how Wendy Torrance was written.

Kubrick's The Shining was a great haunted house flick with insanely great cinematography. Nicholson's acting was incredible, but much like Duvall, not Jack Torrance.

King's The Shining was about a family unit struggling to mend and being destroyed by demons. Jack loves his son, he's just an alcoholic that ****ed up and is trying to make things right. Wendy is strong-willed and resourceful. In the book it crushes you to see this family fall apart in their "last chance".

In the movie, Kubrick has Jack annoyed with his family before the intro credits even finish. You aren't rooting for Wendy, you actually see why Jack is so annoyed with her. His son exists in his life, but he's not a loving father.

I read the book and saw the movie multiple times. Prefer the movie.
