Before the discussion starts and will inevitably get derailed because ... I just want to say that they already tried this with season 8 and 9 and those where utter trash.

Just FYI, none of the creative teams nor the network involved with seasons 8 and 9, or the original run, are involved with this reboot. The show has been wholly re-conceived by Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther, Sinners), who wrote and will direct the pilot. Then, from there, it will be showrun by Jennifer Yale (Legion, Outlander, See, The Copenhagen Test)...

Here for the bans....including my own, most likely.

Dude is clearly a fan of this type of stuff so I'll give this a chance.

I give it 3 episodes before I quit over anti-white racism. Make me wrong, Coogler!

Looks about right for a reboot.
They paid for their wars with your tax dollars and also with your untaxed dollars. Inflation is theft.

Why reboot? I'm so sick of continuous origin stories/reboots. Just pickup where the story left off with new characters in the same universe and if they're not capable of coming up with a compelling storyline to accomplish that they should just leave it alone.

Just throw all the x-files episodes into an AI program and ask it to make 2 more seasons of like stuff but make it darker and edgier…

Soon you will be able to do this at home.

When I hear reboot in this instance, I imagine it's just that it's the same X-files division that has been shut down for 10+ years and it's decided to reopen it.

I have zero problem with that and think someone like Coogler can do something pretty cool.

This is an absolutely classic TV show, and good timing with all the conspiracy & UAP/UFO/Alien stuff around.

That said, I'm against making beloved characters different races. The Cosbys, The Fresh Prince, Jeffersons, Sanford & Son, etc. are black & should stay black IMO because they were awesome. (Just talking television characters here, not the drug/rape or oscar slapping stuff btw).

We honkies get to keep Colt Sievers, JR Ewing, The Duke Boys and MacGyver etc.

It would be nice if Anderson & Duchovney were shown in the pilot involved in something, got "disappeared" and the new agents have to find/rescue them while uncovering new conspiracies & unraveling some old stuff as well.
The characters get to stand on their own two feet, it's their show & keeps continuity.

It faded near the end, but definitely pulled the plug more prudently than X-Files did.

Had X-Files ended after Season 4 (Mulder's apparent suicide), it would probably have gone down as the greatest sci-fi series of all time (or close to it). You could probably even include S5 and S6 in this as while the mythology took a dump, the monster-of-the-week episodes still had some absolute gems (Unusual Suspects, Post Modern Prometheus, Bad Blood, Christmas Carol, Folie A Deux, Drive, Triangle, Dreamland).

S7 took a nosedive even in that department, and S8 and S9 sans Duchovny had completely lost the magic.

The later seasons were also all taking place in an era where shows like Sopranos were on (and The Shield debuted) and you started to really realize how much better TV could really be.

In the spirit of keeping this thread about the Xfiles, they should title the reboot Post Modern Barnum since this is a staged attempt at tricking viewers into thinking it is going to be good or true to the spirit of the original. And also tricking advertisers into shelling out big bucks based on the premise that people will be watching while algorithms on viewership data are easily manipulated.

You know, I'm not even sure I watched S8 and S9 sans Duchovny. I do not recall seasons without him in it.

I also continue to marvel at anyone that (1) knows the names of individual episodes and (2) remembers them and is able to cite them decades later like you have here.

What is like to have that life skill because I certainly do not at all.

Episode names I remember for the most part (and episodes like 'Drive' where Vince Gilligan and Bryan Cranston first met stand as pretty significant TV history moments), what seasons they were in I had to google.

Your first examples are safe. We all know race (and sex) swapping in Hollywood only goes in one direction.

And you weren't on the edge of your seat wanted to know if Mulder could keep evading Trump's super secret Russian army police squad that was coming after him in S10? Must-see TV.
