Watched this movie yesterday and was surprised at how good it was. Incredibly chilling film based on true events of an Islamic terrorist attack in Mumbai that occurred almost 15 years ago. The focus is on the hotel where the standoff lasts two days but events are a bit compressed for pacing purposes.

This was much more graphic with violence than I expected but does a good job with portraying the sheer terror of getting caught up in an attack like that when you are an unsuspecting foreign tourist or an employee of that hotel that just showed up for your job expecting it to bean average day. Gritty and tense movie that will make you imagine what you would do in that situation when you see how it all went down.

I think it is definitely worth a watch and one of the best things streaming right now.

I haven't seen the movie, but I was in Mumbai for work in 2013, five years after the attacks. Our first day there we went sight-seeing and one of the attractions was the Gateway of India, where the terrorists entered the city. It is within eyesight of the subject hotel. The crowd control was intense, with at least 5 different security forces patrolling the area, all with fully automatic rifles. Everyone had to pass through metal detectors and access to the waterfront was cordoned off.

We stayed in a hotel near the airport, and to get onto the property, every car was stopped by a steel gate. Security personnel scanned the car with mirrors, swabbed all the door handles for explosives, opened all doors and hatchbacks/trunks for visual inspection. They were all backed up with a man in a bullet-proof booth with an automatic rifle. Once inspection was passed the gate was opened for the single vehicle and immediately closed again. After everyone was out of the car, everyone had to go through a metal detector like an airport screening, and all luggage was x-rayed. This was every trip into the hotel. Security was taken very seriously.

The next time there, in 2018, security was a little laxer, but still in place.

I made my first work trip to India in 2012. In fact, I was changing planes in Singapore on the way back home when I saw the news that my A&M Classmate - LTC Roy Tisdale '92 was murdered by one of his troops.

When I applied for my visa to go to India, it took a little longer to process because I had "explosives training". Thank God I wasn't a Pakistani. They really don't want those guys coming into their country.

I saw all the same security theater every time I went to my hotel and every time I went to the office of my American employer in Bangalore.

India was definitely hit hard by the Mumbai Attacks.

If you want another good India + Terrorism show to watch, you should watch the Indian version of 24 with Anil Kapoor as the main character.

My company (airline) laid over there. The attack happend after the crew was picked up that morning.

As the story goes, a crewmember on another airline was in the elevator when the attack started. The doors opened on the lobby floor and as he was stepping out, the shooting started. He saw a guy with a gun and turned around and closed the elevator door and went back upstairs until the shooting stopped.

Guess he had to use the coffe maker in the room…

Just a bunch of Mumbai Jumbai…
