Not impossible for it to be done well if the retracing of their steps is just a frame for the film like present day Bilbo at the beginning of the Hobbit films writing down his recollections of the events of the Hobbit, just very much doubt Colbert and his nepo baby son with no actual writing credits would be the ones to write a functional story using that kind of device.

Ugh, well, there's zero doubt in my mind that I'll mentally file this sure-to-be-turd into the same "Does Not Exist" pile that Rings of power is mentally filed in. I really hate hollywood sometimes.

I don't like Colbert, but the dude is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about LOTR. He's an expert on it.

I'm holding out hope that it'll be really true to the source material

If I recall this correctly, I saw some video recently where he was discussing LOTR with someone and he made some plot comment that was incorrect. Watchers pointed that out. I can't remember the specifics though.

One poster swears superfan Stephen Colbert will remain faithful to the material, of which there is only 13 pages of actual JRR Tolkien-written literature after LOTR.

Next post points out that the premise posted in the OP is based on grrrl boss fan fiction.

I could see him being as true to the source material as possible. LOTR is practically religious text to him.

When it comes to hollywood and adapting book source material to the screen, I've stopped placing too much creedance in the screenwriter/showrunner's supposed love of the source material. Case in point is Star Wars.

The Acolyte, one of the worst shows of the past 25 years, was made by a supposed die-hard Star Wars fan. It was clear that no matter her love or knowledge of Star Wars, she was using it to forward her own progressive-driven agenda. Same goes for The Last Jedi by Rian Johnson, another supposed die-hard fan who not only made a horrible movie but completely crapped on every tenet of the original franchise.

Can't wait to find out how Trump was responsible for all the evil in middle earth.
