New Lord of the Rings movie beyond the Golum one, somehow being written by Stephen Colbert and set after ROTK.

https://gizmodo.com/lord-of-the-rings-shadow-of-the-past-new-movie-stephen-colbert-2000737771

" Shadow of the Past will see Sam, Merry, and Pippin reunite to "retrace the first steps of their adventure," according to a press release provided by Warner Bros., while Sam's daughter, Elanor, goes on an unlikely quest of her ownuncovering a long-lost secret about the early days of the War of the Ring that almost saw the mission to destroy the One Ring doomed before it even really began."

Not impossible for it to be done well if the retracing of their steps is just a frame for the film like present day Bilbo at the beginning of the Hobbit films writing down his recollections of the events of the Hobbit, just very much doubt Colbert and his nepo baby son with no actual writing credits would be the ones to write a functional story using that kind of device.

Ugh, well, there's zero doubt in my mind that I'll mentally file this sure-to-be-turd into the same "Does Not Exist" pile that Rings of power is mentally filed in. I really hate hollywood sometimes.

I don't like Colbert, but the dude is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about LOTR. He's an expert on it.

I'm holding out hope that it'll be really true to the source material

Agreed. I bet he remains very faithful to the source material.

If I recall this correctly, I saw some video recently where he was discussing LOTR with someone and he made some plot comment that was incorrect. Watchers pointed that out. I can't remember the specifics though.

Most excellent thread.

One poster swears superfan Stephen Colbert will remain faithful to the material, of which there is only 13 pages of actual JRR Tolkien-written literature after LOTR.

Next post points out that the premise posted in the OP is based on grrrl boss fan fiction.

I could see him being as true to the source material as possible. LOTR is practically religious text to him.

When it comes to hollywood and adapting book source material to the screen, I've stopped placing too much creedance in the screenwriter/showrunner's supposed love of the source material. Case in point is Star Wars.

The Acolyte, one of the worst shows of the past 25 years, was made by a supposed die-hard Star Wars fan. It was clear that no matter her love or knowledge of Star Wars, she was using it to forward her own progressive-driven agenda. Same goes for The Last Jedi by Rian Johnson, another supposed die-hard fan who not only made a horrible movie but completely crapped on every tenet of the original franchise.

I figured the OP was all a troll (not the poster themselves) and an attempt to boost failed Colbert's ratings as he sets off into the sunset as nobody gives a **** about him and nobody in their right mind would hand him the keys to LOTR.

But this post also seems like a troll to support that theory.

So confused.

Anyway, here's Billy Strings from the LOTR Halloween show a few years ago on a Casio guitar. You're all welcome:

The more I've thought about it...I would be ok with Colbert making a LOTR movie but only so long as he includes Tom Bombadil and he's played by Jay Leno.

Sauron returns in a new form...Donald Trump!

The Hobbits must sneak through the yuge wall and go into the heart of Mar-a-Lago under cover from Trump Tower to destroy his second term.

"The Nine Kings, I knew them well. But they were terrible leaders. So terrible. They were like the democrats. So I offered them 9 rings. Because I do deals. So many deals. And they accepted the rings. But I told them, they had to listen to me, or I would control them. So that's what I did. They said 'Sir, you can't do that' and I said 'Yes I can because of the power of the rings'. Nobody controls kings better than me. Some say I'm the best."

I've seen people say Tom Bombadil played by Matt Berry. That would be Gold(berry)

It will be "true to the source material". *

*he'd be writing the source material himself, so of course it would.
