For the 3 or 4 other people familiar with this show......

I'm a few seasons into this 20 year old Sy-Fy series that seems to be making up every episode as it goes. I like shows that are about secluded mountain towns with self-contained storylines. Northern Exposure, Resident Alien, etc.

In Eureka, there may be an alien invasion, or ghosts, or time travelers, or the threat of nuclear war, and it is always the responsibility of the sherriff and his hot deputy to solve the problem. Every now and then a high ranking general/government official makes an appearance via video to threaten some government intervention.

Its a fun, light, sci-fi comedy / drama that throws all reality and continuity out the window. A major character who is portrayed as an antagonist because he wears black and is always accompanied by ominous music steps into a portal, and he's gone, brother! Oh, and he was actually a hero. Need a new female lead? Here comes the sherrif's pregnant sister for a while. Don't like a child character? Don't worry, he's there in season 2, gone in season 3.

A scientist tries to destroy the sherriff's life over a few episodes, even erasing his memory of a separate timeline. He goes to prison for a while, comes back, and he and the sherriff are now partners and bffs. What??

You just can't make this stuff up!

Once you get used to that, its a fun show.

Yep. Also on USA at the time was The Dead Zone and Psyche. Wasn't 4400 on USA too?

About this same time, Fringe was on Fox. Some good TV back then for sure.

It was an interesting show.

They stuck the creators and showrunner with EP Karl Schaefer on season one so it was a miracle it made it past that. It amazes me anything makes it past season one with Karl holding a leadership role. He mainly complains about the charcuterie spread not being up to par instead of working on story with the writers.

So it's "Lost"?

Not really. There isn't any mystery or anything like that. It is light hearted sci-fi based around a straight-man sheriff dealing with the hijinks of a bunch of crazy scientists.

Been on a stargate binge and eureka is on my list after. Grew up watching that with my dad all throughout high school. We loved it

Grimm is another great show. Why can't there be any shows like that anymore, or if there are where are they? There has to be a market for them.

Psych is still my favorite show ever.

That was on with Eureka, Burn Notice, Warehouse 13, Chuck, White Collar, Fringe, Jericho. I even got into Doctor Who then and spin offs like Torchwood.

I miss those days!

I was interested in all the shows mentinoed above, but I didn't have much time for TV when they originally aired. I'm enjoying catching up now. I've seen Warehouse 13 mentioned a lot here and other places. I'll try to check that one out sometime.

I usually read and listen to music on my indoor trainer rides.

But this thread had me rewatching all the pilots for the shows mentioned here today.

Another GOAT from the archives is Patriot on Prime. Freaking brilliant.

Started watching this on Prime on Monday after the recommendations here, and yesterday saw a tag on the page that it would be leaving prime in 2 hours.

This sounds like the plotline from an episode. The most brilliant scientists in the world are baffled as to why Eureka is leaving Amazon Prime, and Carter the Bumpkin Cop will figure it out based on how newspapers used to be delivered from small addresses to large addresses.
