First impressions on the two episodes tonight:

I think it's very good. The visuals are beautiful. I have been to Walden Pond and Concord, and they are presented just as I remember them.

I am a retired English teacher so I have lived with Thoreau's words for many years. It is hard to do justice to them in snippets, but that really can't be helped.

He is a difficult read, but time given to his words is immensely rewarding.

I always enjoy Jeff Goldblum, but it took me a while to warm to him as Thoreau. Maybe just the growing familiarity, but he seemed to get better as the time went on.

I am surprised nothing was mentioned about what many scholars believe was a major crush Thoreau had on Emerson's second wife, Lydian.

I look forward to hearing what the documentary writers make of Emerson's eulogy for him, which is quite a complex portrait in which Emerson cannot stop himself from displaying his immense disappointment in Thoreau's life choices.
