I almost said Robert Altman but then remembered he directed Popeye.

Popeye was excellent.

You could make a case for John Hughes, he was king of a particular genre for a while.

I would put John Carpenter on it.

Come at me.

He did the remake of The Thing, so I agree with you.

This thread is very neckbeardy.

If this weren't Texags, I'd think I had just stepped into some weird pub were the dorks were regaling each other of tales of who should ascend to the mount rushmore of directors whilst swilling cider ale, m'lady.

Thought it would be fun to use this as an excuse to see which directors for whom I've rated multiple movies a 9 or 10.

I ended up having 5 directors with 4 each:
  • Nolan
  • Kubrick
  • PTA
  • Coen brothers
  • Wes Anderson
I'd probably push Wes from that group as being the least accessible and versatile.

Others with 2 or more appearances:
  • Tarantino
  • Tarkovsky
  • Samuel Fuller
  • Damien Chazelle
  • Adam McKay

Nolan has had a few misses but is still one of the best. Not sure he's top 5 though.

Neckbeards likely wouldn't even know who Carpenter or Hughes are.

I think typing this out makes you the king of the nerds.

This type topic is always going to be the victim of recency bias.

But you have to at least have Ford, Hitchcock, and Kubrick on the list to be taken seriously.
