Righteous Gemstones had some gold moments (teenjus) but was inconsistent.
I've only watched one episode of Eastbound and Down so I can't fairly evaluate that one, but seems like the bar was set really high with Vice Principals

The first season or two of East Bound was pretty damn good. Danny McBride is nails. I recently revisited Vice Principals and it was much funnier than I remembered.

Gemstones, for me, but thats more due to the full cast.

I do love Vice Principals though. The first two seasons of eastbound were pretty incredible. Hit or miss after.

Agree that the first two seasons of Eastbound was just peak. Just such off the wall writing and one of the most incredibly quotable shows out there IMO.

My vote goes to the first 1-2 seasons of Eastbound, but I also admit bias being a baseball fan whose favorite sports comedy is Major League - so I love what he did with Eastbound.

VP is great but I'd give a slight edge to EB&D. Dude is so good in both. Great supporting cast in both as well.

My wife and I like Gemstones the best. Judy was my favorite character.
There were several times that we would have to pause to stop laughing or rewind because of "wait, did she just say what we think she said?".

Judy is a top 10 character of all time for us. S1 of Eastbound and Down is glorious. Didn't like S2 as much but never finished it. Need to revisit.

I have not heard of Vice Principals. Will have to check this out.

I've watched the first couple of episodes of EBAD. Not the greatest but a few chuckles. I think it's because i watched VP first. All three HBO series are basically the same.

VP is masterful though.

because it only went 2 seasons. If EBAD pulled the plug after 2, it would be much better received on the whole. Gemstones was very "mid" to me.

Eastbound and Down is effing great. No way that show gets made right now. Guess you could say the same for Vice Principals.

Hard to pick between those two...might be a tie for me. Haven't seen Righteous Gemstones.

East Bound and Down hands down.

Kenny is the man but throw in Stevie and Katie Mixon and it's a no brainer. I also like the raunchiness of EB&D better than the others.

VP was good but it's no Eastbound and Down.

I never finished Righteous Gemstones. I should go back and fix that, but the first two seasons of Eastbound and Down were amazing. The later seasons were not as good, which takes the luster off of it a little bit.

Also, dont forget Fist Foot Way, although I would say he was playing Kenny Powers, just in a different sport and it was a movie.

Agreed. The nuance that McBride had during the series on corporatized southern evangelism was amazing. And the music was a huge part of that. The fact that they write misbehavin is both genius and hilarious.

I think vice principals was straight up funnier. I really liked the first two season of east bound and down but KP got to be really unlikable

the final episode of EB&D was classic

you think it ends one way- then it's all a dream ending the exact opposite way.

I think the final scene is showing that Kenny Powers was not really Kenny Powers-

it was all part of a novel being created

It's definitely east bound, you need to watch it. VP was hilarious too, but Kenny Powers is the funniest character ever.
