I believe that is correct, and even after the other group members were added he continued to play lead, rhythm, acoustic, and bass guitars, keyboards, and (I think) some percussion too depending on the song. I saw them at The Woodlands toward the end of Delp's time and Scholz was all over the stage that night playing different instruments as they worked through their set list.

He was 41 when cancer took him. Always loved his style and sound and I just saw Road House again last night or part of it anyway so I thought of him.

Bonham for me. My musical tastes were just forming and Zepp was a big part of that. I would most certainly have attended a concert on that planned I.T.t.O.D. tour. Does anyone else remember KLOL just dropping the needle on side one that summer when the album was released? Short commercial break and the same for side 2. Formative memory for me, as me and my bud were riding to Galveston with his older, driving-licensed brother to 'surf' last time before Summer ended.

Both could have produced a lot more good music.

I think two that really bothered me were 2Pac and Layne Staley. Would love to have seen how Staley would have progressed in his art.

I've gotta go with Ronnie and Steve from Lynyrd Skynyrd. Steve Gaines' only studio album with Skynyrd was Street Survivors, and he absolutely kicked that band in the ass. Everyone had to elevate their game to keep up with him, and it was some of Van Zant's best songwriting.

I also wonder how Skynyrd would have progressed with no plane crash and if Allen Collins hadn't faced so many demons. He went through some hell after the crash (his wife died during a miscarriage), and he ended up falling deeper into drugs and alcohol. He crashed his car while driving drunk, killing his girlfriend and paralyzing himself. He never played guitar again, and died just a few years after the Skynyrd reunion tour in '87. Would loved to see how that band would have progressed with Rossington, Collins, and Gaines all being together for years. I'd have loved to see Ed King come to that mix also.

Def Leppard hasn't been the same since he died. I know Mutt Lange was also a huge part of their success, but the loss of Steve Clark was huge, as well.

And he didn't die, but I would also get Pete Willis off of the alcohol so he didn't get kicked out. They had a harder edge with him.

Friend of mine that is a drummer contends that Rick became a better drummer after losing his arm.

If I only get one then I'll take Layne Staley back. Alice in Chains was my favorite band to come out of the grunge-era 90's and my appreciation has only grown in adulthood. Their music was dark and heavy, but also the combination of Staley and Cantrell harmonizing on vocals gave them a unique twist that just worked. Their discography is truly incredible for such a short run. I never got to see them with Layne, but I saw them about 15 years ago, and I can only imagine what they could have created over the years had Layne never died.

Well as a drummer I will say he certainly didn't get worse. lol. He was not a highly regarded drummer in any sense prior to the loss of his arm. He actually had to work hard after that and make adaptations to continue. It is certainly admirable what he did and how he overcame.
