And in real life, I walked the stage 5 days later and received my HS diploma. Wasn't decided yet on where or what I'd be doing in the fall, other than leaving the RGV.

The film was a pretty accurate depiction of that time.

I still listen to a lot of the same music. I'm wearing a t shirt and jeans today - probably wearing jeans and a t shirt 50 years ago today.

Fun fact, a lot of the extras in that movie were HS kids from Round Rock McNeil where I did the majority of my substitute teaching in 1994.

One of my all time favorite movies! My best friend and I (met at A&M) watched tonight to celebrate fifty years. We picked up a sixer at the local gas station prior to to commemorate.

So many great random lines in this movie. My group of friends & I have repeated them for so long it sometimes shocks on a rewatch because I forgot where they came from.

It just hit me now, thinking about that era of apartment living off Wells Branch Parkway in Austin and hoping to find an Engineering job in Austin.

That movie was released only 18 years after the time period it was set in.

The movie itself is now 32 years old.

Our rent back then was $450 a month to live in an apartment exactly like the one Peter Gibbons and Lawrence lived in, in the movie "Office Space". Damn I'm old.

That was filmed at Travis HS in Austin. I did a summer semester there in '86. Still brings back memories every time I see it.

I grew up in Allendale and during filming. So much was filmed all throughout my neighborhood. The pony fields where Mitch gets paddled, when Obannon drives through the yard, a girl in my elementary class, that was her yard. And the kicker, Mitch Kramer's house was one block from mine. We would sneek over at night and watch them film, it was a huge to-do with trucks, lights, etc. So cool to see as a 9-10 yr old. Still eat at Top Notch too.

No one does Hang Movies as good as Linklater. He's the best.

That's awesome. I just randomly rewatched this movie the other night and enjoyed it even more than I used to. Should be requiring viewing for all Gen Z/Gen Alpha HS or college aged kids.

Dated my now wife for a few years when she was finishing up school at UT from 2008-2010 and she lived in that 51'st and Lamar/Burnet area. I hope Burnet never loses that retro charm. Still felt like a time warp cruising that road back then.

One of my favorite movies. The stadium at the end of the movie was my football home field in high school, so that adds a little personal connection as well.

I'm a big Dennis Wilson fan and ordered that, but the disc that had the special features came cracked in half and I never ended up getting a replacement.

I have a connection to the film since I graduated from HS the week of the story.

The soundtrack - I looked it up on AI, and I did see War at the Pan American Field House (now UT Edinburg) on November 9, 1975. They put on a great show. I had to include that Commander Cody was the opening act - for AI to figure it out. I was not a pot smoker, but I think I had a secondary high at that concert, sitting/standing at mid court.

I reckon they left some bigger groups off the soundtrack due to funding, as a previous poster mentioned. Yep, I listened to ZZ Top, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, War, Aerosmith, etc. They probably didn't have the budget for the Rolling Stones, Bad Company, Yes, Springsteen, and The Who. My crowd didn't listen to disco, even though it was the main Top 40 radio playlist favorites. But the Eagles and Three Dog Night would have been a nice touch for the soundtrack.

The cars. We did love our beautiful machines. The film captures that. And we did raise the hoods and check things out. We worked on our vehicles, for enjoyment ... and necessity.

The coaches did wear those gray shorts and tube socks.

The girls did wear those jeans...

I worked at IBM on Burnet in '87.

It's all gone now.
