Surprise no quick mention for Stuck in the Middle With You in Reservoir Dogs. Somewhat random song, and I think if you've seen the movie it's hard to disassociate the song from it.
That song wasn't obscure though. It was pretty well known before the movie.
That makes sense. I'm unfamiliar with the band but it looks like this was their only hit. Hard for a one hit wonder song to be obscure. I retract my suggestion!

I'm going with damn it feels good to be a gangsta from office space. I wasn't into rap really in early 90s, but quick search doesn't look like it was a single or anything when released in 1992, certainly not outside of Houston.
Just a random album cut.
Office space 7 years later.

I was just about to post this one. It was really popular in small circles, but certainly not the more mainstream hit once the movie introduced it to all the middle-class white boys across America.

Fair maybe... but it wasn't a hit before Vision Quest. It wasn't even a charted hit song. The movie is what gave it a boost and it became a staple of AOR radio after the movie.
I've seen online debates that discount it when talking about one hit wonders specifically because it never actually charted on the Top 100 and only on the Mainstream Rock airplay chart after the movie 4 years after release.
You may not know the movie but the movie put the song on the map.

For those that haven't seen the movie, Madonna was blowing up at the time and she's in the movie signing, Crazy For You. The song and the movie both helped propel each other.
Mathew Modine's character gets a little handsy in one scene that is a bit cringe to watch, other than that its a pretty good movie.

Growing up just outside Houston during that time, I didn't know it wasn't popular everywhere, so I wouldn't have guessed it. It was a wake up call to how regional music was when I went to St. Louis my freshman year, I asked people do yall like Paul Wall, Lil Flip, Swisha house, Fat Pat, Mike Jones (edit How could I forget Too Short) etc…and just got blank stares.

Yeah, does a song from a musical really count for this?

Not sure if this fits criteria but I remember seeing Cruel Intentions in the theaters in High School and Bittersweet Symphony was just hitting the scene. That scored the ending of that movie incredibly well.
Also, I think Dirty Dancing probably had a few good ones to reference…hungry eyes, Time of my life etc
Holy ****… I did not even realize he was in Steelers Wheel. I'm embarrassed. I've always liked Baker Street.Zombie Jon Snow said:62strat said:Chipotlemonger said:Bruce Almighty said:Chipotlemonger said:

Yeah Gerry Rafferty went solo and had Baker Street and Right Down The Line which were. big hits along with some other moderate hits and it was pretty well known that it was the same guy.

I loved that MV also had Stigmata from Ministry on an episode. Unusual choice for 80s TV (that I loved)Zombie Jon Snow said:IJones23 said:G Martin 87 said:

Hmmm interesting I did not remember that one but it was S1 E15 also in 1985 the same year as Vision Quest. So I guess it got a double boost that year.
That episode is perhaps better known for Glenn Frey's appearance as a guest star and featuring his song "Smugglers Blues" which was also the title of the episode.
That show was just made for rock music crossovers and changed TV and cop shows.
Of course the iconic song from Miami Vice besides the theme was Phil Collins "In The Air Tonight" from the pilot episode.

Yep, Miami Vice helped exposure for a lot of songs. Very similar to Tarantino in that respect. "Smugglers Blues" always reminds me of Miami Vice.
